Swam half a loop… lots of current
Cycle to donkey track and back twice… 70kph in a cross wind is still terrifying. If you are brave donkey track is also really fast, although I imagine most are cautious
Just ran 5k lovely temperature

I like to swim a lap of the course on the Thursday and Friday mornings at about the same time as the race start on the Saturday, to see the direction the sun comes up, check the sighting at the turns etc. Did I see that they have amended the swim to be a 1-lapper this year?

Yes 1 lap. I have to get 0930 bus to CLS tomorrow, not sure I can be bothered with swim at 7am.

Just realised that 8pm Saturday, I should be sitting at a bar watching football and supporting the slower runners finish their Ironman

Last time I raced Lanza, by 8pm I was running past a bar and kept spotting Mrs MC sat with a newly acquired supporting chum, absolutely off her trolley on Pina Coladas and Strawberry Dacquiris… it didn’t help. :joy:

IIRC, Mrs Symes was in on the act too……

Coming down fast at the end requires intense concentration …sure you’ll be fine.

Swimming at the same time is a good idea as the conditions change quite a lot apparently…and you get used to the sun position, as mentioned. But if you are pushed for time you don’t want to stress about it, sure there will be plenty of feet to follow.

The water definitely tends to be flatter first thing in the morning. The wind usually takes a while to pick up.

mind that riptide

One year when my boys were small we were swimming and splashing in the waves at Famara, it was great fun. Then this grumpy English guy came up and basically ordered us out of the water “are you trying to drown them?” “Do you know how any people have been swept to their deaths here?”

Killjoy

Answers were no and no btw

Good luck @Matthew_Spooner

I expect to see you on Dig-me on 9 Oct, all the boxes ticked just a matter of execution, smart decision making and digging deep when the time comes.
