Ironman Nutrition Plan

I’ve always got on okay with SIS; as a bonus they often have it in Lidl too. Not that I need sports nutrition these days, with no long events in the calendar. In an IM, I generally like to keep most of the calories on the bike as solid food (bars/bananas), because if I can palate solids, I know I’m not overcooking it.

What was you using instead?

Can’t remember now … whatever I used to use for fuelling

It is a malto/fructose mix which is almost certainly absorbed from the gut quicker than a single sugar, of course, there’s plenty of other options with a mix of sugars, but being on the limit of absorbtion for calories does seem pretty unlikely.

discount code?

I believe it is 1:1 ratio too, while most others are usually 2:1 or 3:1.

Listed in the show notes for basically every episode (don’t know why, but kind of feel obliged to at least get the person coordinating the discount some traffic)

Used to swim and have swim sessions led by her as part of Knutsford Tri :+1:t3:

So, your blood is topped up, your liver is topped up, your muscles are topped up and now you want to add another 22g + of sugar to the mix…i am no nutritionist but I do wonder about this…

Back in the Madison days, i bought it on staff purchase…but i now buy the intro packs when discounted (and suffer the least preferred flavours)

Always used SIS GO for short course racing, and in Austria half. Watermelon flavour for the drink! I then got lazy and just took whatever

What makes you think that?

I have tried to make a concentrated batch to squeeze into the hydration system and that seemed to work mind you that was limited to a HIM. So all I needed to take from the feed stations was water. After dumping in the water I then used the straw to blow bubbles to mix up the solution. Seems to work and it meant i didn’t have GI issues just a need to have a quick pee in T2 and go for it. For me 200g of carbs for the 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 hours on the bike was fine. I could then use gels on the run without issue

Ooh…and the other SIS Beta users - I’m liking this super concentrate plan…

Surely that depends on the time gap between breakfast and the gel?

I’ve done that in two IMs and two bike legs of LCW. Concentrated bomb in the downtube bottle and water BTA.

Yes, I made up a gel mix for an aero frame bottle in a few of my more successful outings in the day. Probably got about 10 isogels in there plus a drop of water to brim it.

Absolutely…so evening meal and breccy timing is important…as is what you eat…

if you skip the evening meal and breccy, then i guess not…
