You’ll have to report back what their caffeine gels are like. Not tried those yet

Not great. I had one towards the back end of my marathon in Malaga, and they’re a very different flavour to the others which are pretty neutral. I think I quit on trying to take the second half of it as I thought it’d make me vom. Whereas the normal ones are really good, and I like the semi chewy texture

Great
One of the 320 packs is also caffeine.

Maurten make it sound like they’ve masked the caffeine flavour, obviously not!

“ By utilizing our hydrogel technology we’ve even managed to control the bitterness that caffeine usually results in – without any added acid, flavors or colorants. “

It’s approaching a couple of years since I bought mine, so maybe they’ve improved them?

I tried one last year towards the end of the Cotswold Classic. Don’t remember them having a strong taste. Their gels tend to be quite bland in taste. However what I did notice is that it did have an effect on my HR which jumped not long after taking it. I can’t remember how many you get in a pack but if you can possibly worth testing it out towards the end of a long training run

My MaxHR is 203, and I’m usually caffeinated to the hilt On a daily basis, so a high HR doesn’t bother me :+1:t3:

Tried the Maurten Gel on the bike the other day, and on the run yesterday. I’ve never tried Oysters, but I imagine its of a similar consistency. Someone said its like swallowing a slug
It took me 8-10 steps to get each mouthful down on the run, whereas with the GoGel its in and I can swallow straight away(phnaaar)
Oh, and re-tried the 3 sachets of BetaFuel mixed in a 750ml bottle. Gave it a good mix using some boiling water the night before, stuck it in the fridge and no lumps in the morning.

So was this watered down on the ride, then?

Viscous mix into downtube bottle, few squirts into the BTA, the water down as and when?

Seems like a good idea.

Yes, watered down during the ride in to the BTA bottle and topped up with Water(from aid stations on the day). I also mark the bottle in to thirds, so easier to see how much to squirt in

An anyone recommend a BTA system for my cockpit? I quite like the look of a torhans or an xlab hyrdroblade but I’m concerned that they can’t be adjusted in terms of angle. First part of my aero bars are pointing up around 30 degrees moving to 50 degrees at the shifters.

Both those bottles look like they attach when using a flat aero bar?!

Is that a Vittoria Corsa tyre?

Stick a 750ml in that gap and take another photo.

Also, why do you have bar tape on?
Get this grams saved :rofl::metal:t5:

I like the grip!!

Yeah that’s a corsa on that wheel. It’s on an old SRAM60 with an alu brake track

Bike’s at home, I’m not!

Bottle goes on both ways but only 500 ml

Is that like a plate that attaches to your aero bars?

That’s why I asked!
Likelihood is that you can just zip tie a bottle cage to the bars and whack a normal bottle in there :+1:t3:

Then melt a £5 Wahoo mount into the cage with a lighter :man_scientist:

Yes.

Can also take torpedo but maybe not at those angles

I’ve seen people use ties / string!

To hold a bottle cage in place, one guy said it had been there 4 years … no issues.

Thanks chaps. I’ll have a play around with it later.

I suppose I can lose some tape and slide that Wahoo mount up

The Torhans BTA bottle requires flat bars otherwise it’ll look cockeyed (I’ve got one).

I’ve a Zipp Vuka Alumina BTA Mount with Quickview for sale £35 posted if you’re interested (or anyone else for that matter). It doesn’t fit my aerobar set up. It would place the 550ml bottle BTA at the same angle as your aerobars. If you want the bottle to be perfectly horizontal then I think your only answer is zip ties + ingenuity.

Thanks for the kind offer.

I’ll get busy with some cable ties first and see what I can do!
