Thoughts? Managed to nab an Xlab bottle mount from a mate.

Viable or ridiculous?

Ridiculous :see_no_evil::man_shrugging:t4:

Does it not fit on the top?

I would have thought that you’re pushing a lot of air with that, at a place where you don’t want to be. High hands tend to shield the effect of the bottle if it’s on top, right?

My other thought is that in the heat of a race, you’ll either drop the bottle or not drink enough due to its awkward placement.

If it fulfills the function, and it won’t go in the normal place, go for it. Reaching under the bars doesn’t leap out as comfortable but try it.

All triathletes look ridiculous.

I guess you could botch a straw into the bottle (saw a video online of how to make a homemade bta bottle) that would negate the awkward placement and risk of dropping

I’ll only add that if you’re going to place the bottle there I’m guessing you’ll need a more grippy cage, preferably one that goes right around and under the bottle else it’ll launch when you hit a pothole. Especially with large bottles like pictured. I launched a bottle at IM Austria with an above the bars set up that looked more secure than yours

It looks tidy compared to many set ups you see :+1:

I think it looks ridiculous and the amount of air it’s going to push were my first thoughts too.

Unfortunately my arms are too narrow for it to go on top. And the last thing I want to do is change my position to accommodate that bottle.

The cage on there is indeed very loose and would change it but that was just the cage the plate came with

Felt like it was ok to reach - but doing that in my utility room and doing it at speed are two very different things!

I’ll keep playing around, I couldn’t find any cable ties. Hopefully just the cage and bottle will take up less room on top

Thanks for the input!!

That looks like the same plate I have but I’ve lost track of exactly what set up I’ve got as I mixed and matched a few different parts to get where I am now.
If you can’t get the whole set-up above the bars you might be able to mount the plate underneath but put the bottle cage on the other side of it so it is between your bars, there looks enough room in the picks. I run mine as far back as possible and had to use longer bolts and a couple of spacers to raise it above the stem.

Now I look at it, the plate on your is longer than mine but the principle is the same. Think of it as a collection of components rather than a single fitting and assemble it on the bike however it fits best.
This is mine with aero spacers to raise it above the stem and the little rubber grommet sits on the stem to stop it rattling. I think I might be using it backwards to its intended position.

That is indeed the same plate.

That’s a nice idea. I’ll give it a shot.

There is definitely room for a bottle between my arms just not a bottle and the carrier

Sandwiches when swimming? Then corned beef?

The menu looks worse that the race!

I think I mostly went for the cake option during the swim tbh.

…you have previously mentioned a downtube bottle for a super concentrate for race day.
Thought I’d mention, I lost mine on one of the descents, drove back round to collect it.
Just make sure it is held in nicely!
A bit of skateboard grip tape, or sticky back sandpaper does nicely!

That’s why I always make another half bottle and leave in special needs. Just for insurance.
