Ironman UK 2021

I know several …

I wouldn’t personally but I’m tight!

Roll downs could be” interesting”

People who were finishing about 10:45 seemed fairly pleased, combination of good races and a Kona slot I reckon.

Wonder if they are overselling either because it’s July and they know how many free slots they’ve got or if they’re gambling on some not being able to travel.

We are still banned from Trump’s law last year, but hoping that will lift soon.

@Poet - Sorry to hear you had a nightmare, take care, Paul.

PS
Your taper niggles had me fearing you’d have a problem on the run and limp home on one leg.
(Again! )

Well done @SidSnot :+1::beers:

Now, if @Mungo2 was at The Black Dog, he’d have seen me absolutely milking it and shouting “GARY!”

But no, he wasn’t there.
I was going to tell him to post what’d happened

So sorry tj

The people I wanted to stand with had two big umbrellas and children.

I was at the horribin lane junction the fast bit as you turn left and head back to Bolton after coming up the ride between the reservoirs.

I never left that spot, I shouted you once, you seemed to move your head but you can’t hear much in the silly helmets we wear.

Well done in your effort, there was a very bad crash exactly were I had mine, he there ok?

Your in one piece and healthy … the rest is just sport…

Tough luck Mr P. Those grapes can wait to be crushed. They live another day.

No worries :+1:t3:
It was proper busy at the Black Dog.

I was too focussed on not coming off on that corner, it’s quite tight!

Cheers for the shout :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Gotta say the support is BLOODY FANTASTIC at this event.
Even in that rain :tada::champagne:

I hit my swim target and then some (6th in AG!)
Didn’t go off like a gun on the bike, and hit my power numbers when I was riding.
Also seemed to have nailed my nutrition.
Just need to calm the nerves :poop: (Imodium?)

So loads of positives to take :+1:t3::tada:

Top 10 in his last 4 races.

He won one of them.

Good grief. Sometimes it’s good to be a bit chubby.

Several of the skinny’s were shaking with cold, not a good place to be, the “ larger” athletes seemed less bothered! … lol…. attire went from soaking vested tri suits to full winter gear with big jackets and gloves.

Space blankets on the bike was a first too!

Tough day.

You always see a lot of folk who don’t adjust kit for the cold/wet: resulting in a DNF or minutes slower due to shaking/stomach shut down/mental misery to save 45 seconds in T1.

Sounds like an epic day of Ironman racing.

Saw those at IM France a few years ago coming off the Col d’Eze, didn’t really expect that in mid-summer in the south of France :disappointed:

It wasn’t that cold (says me) but when you are soaked wearing a 1mm of Lycra and a bike windchill it’s a completely different matter, it’s hard to get warm again after that.

But it’s also hard to get the layering right when it dries up and you overheat :man_shrugging:t2:

Well done to everyone who toed the line on a tough course on a cold and rainy day, respect.

With 100 slots there’s probably quite a few happy M50’s tonight.

The lad I mentioned earlier, who had to self isolate instead of race; this is how he spent his day :scream:
