Ironman UK 2021

Well an abject lesson in patience and confidence from Joe Skipper I think, I wish we had it televised.

It seems that Joe stayed within himself despite being far back, confident in his run and his strategy which took him gradually back up to second. Then it seems Sam detonated somewhere in the final 5-10 kms.

And that’s the game. Stay within yourself and keep your head together…plus years of consistent training and a dollop of good fortune of course! :grinning:. I’ll try to remember this next time I’m cracking/giving up on the bike and run!

Looking forward to hearing Joe’s race recap.

Yup.
Totally agree with that :+1:t3:

Cannot believe Skipper’s run time, though.
I thought the course was fast when I recce’d it, but hell!

He was rapid

Sorry to hear about the DNF. One for the experience bank.

Well done to those who made it.

IM in horrible weather is shitty luck.

Shows just how good the top pros are. Those names near the top of the AG game are on special, but to see Tom still an hour behind skipper on same course and conditions shows they actually are on a totally different level.

Saw some footage (insta story) of laidlow towards the end. He looked in pieces

So…I just searched for #IronmanUK on Twitter via Google (I don’t have Twitter)

And this comes up

Yep that’s Sean. He’s taken his Kona place too.

There’s only him and Simon Smith who aren’t AWA in the Top 10 of our AG - flying under the radar.

I like it :trophy::palm_tree::tropical_drink:

Pretty sure it’s only his 2nd IM his 1st was also Bolton & he’s come a long way since then. Was supposed to be doing Cork before it was cancelled.

Is that the South Walian Simon Smith?

(Don’t have access to results atm  )

I swim with him on a Sunday night, he’s an Army lad & spends his weekends up here.

I hadn’t realised he was doing IMUK, but he was hoping to get KQ at Tenby. His swim isn’t great but obvs his bike/run is solid.

Nice guy.

Does anyone know if people have received any notification of KQ slots or if any info’ available on the allocations yet? I’m pretty sure I was high enough in my AG for a direct qualification and was expecting to have heard somethin by now.

Cheers

We’re assuming emails would have gone out by now to KQs and that the roll down takes a while as each person has up to 48hrs to make a decision.

Yeah, that was my expectation too. If dude who was 7th in the 45-49 AG mentioned above has got confirmation, then finishing higher in the similarly sized 40-44 AG I would have expected some info’ by now.

(though still debating if i’d take it, as been already, extra baw-ache of covid restrictions and crazy cost of the trip)
