Ironman UK 2021

Yeah - they post them up manually at Bolton race site about 0830 this morning :+1:t3:

You’d have had to go down and look for the big triangle in the middle of the athlete village.

The one with the all the athletes on.

Oh, well done, too :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:

ETA: bloody hell!!! You certainly bike and ran your way to a slot :scream:
Awesome work. :trophy::tada::palm_tree:

So how are they rolling down?
Friend of mine was 11th in AG, and has no idea what the process is……

They’ll roll down via email…after 48 hours at the most :+1:t3:

That’s him.

wow, wot a great but tough day.

The Sw1m was a bit Long on my Garmin but only 3.9km. Follow Anthony on Strava to see this activity. Join for free. Thought I sw@m ok tbh. Adjusted 3.8km time for me would be approx 1h38.45 so quite poor even by my mediocre standards, as I expected/hoped for 1h30-33. no wind or sun dazzle, so conditions quite good really. allegedly 20 degrees. Not cold anyway, even for an old skinny get like me who feels it badly.
I was expecting it to have been longer, more like 200-400m, given every ones times being down 5 to 10 mins. Go Figure?

In 2019, the first time the Bury direction was used on the bike, as a 2 lapper it was kin 'ard. Tho I loved it as my mojo was ‘in’, and I’m a good climber (skinny get) despite only being 3 weeks out from a cracked head at LakesMan, and I loved it.
This 2021 3 lapper was officially sposed to be a bit easier with “reduced elevation”. Not sure about that! Can anyone compare actual elevations?

Highlight of the day - taking p1ss out of Poet in T2.
seriously, bad luck m8, that bike course was kin hard in the dry. And the road surface / potholes were often dreadful.
But on Lap1 at least you could see most of the potholes and bumps, and there was no minor flooding, nor wet slipperiness and debris washed up.

So the main thing Poet missed out on was some proper Type 1 fun, when it was daft wet on the bike.
It was awesome tbh that this was being experienced on a mainstream MDot IM, and not just 3 nutters and a sheep on an independent event. Great fun, I loved it.
The initial rain was pretty bad, and if it had continued like that,
I know I’m not the only one who was thinking/dreading if IM might have pulled every one in. Thankfully it eased up for lap3, and wasnt so bad. The run was actually dry! Did it pee down after 9pm for the real heros still out there tho? Wasnt pleasant driving back acros teM62

In a recent survey, 90% of IMUK participants were too feckin stoopid to take a lightweight rain jacket with them on the bike.
(fold, or roll into a ball, laggy band, stick down front or back off trisuit, simples)
My EnduroMan top is a bike shirt, so I just had it in a rear pocket.
Just a light/posh Goretex thing. I usually feel the cold when wet, but was absolutely fine.

Tho I seemed to be the only one who took out a light rain jacket onto the run, for the very same reasonm I did on the bike: just in case it peed it down…

The support on lap1 on the bike was great. Still plenty of brave folks after the rain came too. Chapeau.

Event organisation was spot on. Lots of helpful marshals. Nit pick I had was no signage from Coach Drop off point to the snicket behind the hotel.

cool that you could keep up with The Don for a bit. Nikki B was using a disk and I had little trouble keeping up with her on two big hills. She correctly wasnt going crackers on the descents either.
(I witnessed 2 numpTs on MTBs on the bike course almost take her out!) As soon as the road got less technical, she disappeared!

run was hard work, as I’d had to much fun on the bike. I once ran a 3h31 at Bolton. Ideally wanted a sub 4 but cant complain with 4h11 tbh, in the context of being after that extra tough bike.

Cheers for all the support folks.
The Denim shorts seem to have caught even more attention than usual?? Its been a while I spose.

He’s a yorkie… so not a real mate … virtual friend, so to speak.

Humble guy, improved a lot since 2019, except for swimming lol

This!!!

I got soaked. (ETA: But I paid attention to the forecast and wore my Perfetto and took my ROS Gloves :+1:t3:)

I fully experienced the biblical downpours.
I was TTing down Chorley New Road in it at 48kmh, scary scary stuff :see_no_evil:
Especially with my rear wheel slipping on the white lines.

Great to see you - one more sentence from you and I’d have probably gone out for a run lap

I haven’t received anything yet. I went to athlete services this morning to check slot allocation and she said 12 in the 45-49 and I was 6th(guy who was 1st on tracker showing as dq on official results, he had some dodgy timing splits and no t2)
She did say “later this week” for the email

Thanks all for the mentions. As others have said, tough day at the office. I thought my day was over when I got a flat at 90 miles and realised my SNAFU of having 2 spare tubes with short valves whereas I needed a long valve. Thankfully a kind competitor had a long valve tube and shallow rims so we swapped. I just hoped it would last the remaining 22 miles, which it did(only to collect the bike with it flat as a pancake) Dodged a bullet there. 5:53 moving time, 6:12 race time, 19 minutes faffing. Like @Toyota_Crown said, I was one of the 90% who didn’t take a rain jacket so cue shivering on the downhills during the rain.
Cracking run for me, 3:38 and not one step walked. 10:58 race time. 6th in AG(was 7th but guy who was 1st on tracker now showing as DQ , he had some funny run splits) With the extra slots there are 12 in my AG, I await the email. I’ll take the slot, pay the entry fee and wait to see what happens with the travel situation.
Sorry to hear your day didn’t turn out as you deserved @Poet and top stalking. Nice to meet you through the fence

Quality work :clap:t3:

Course was actually way quicker on race day with the closed roads :see_no_evil::man_shrugging:t4:

Loved tracking you and seeing you finish knowing you’d got a slot :trophy::palm_tree:

Well done.

Is there an easy way to see the DNF rate?

The tracker tells me 974 men and 109 women finished…age group that is.

divide that number by total starters … :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

A few pros didn’t finish either.
1,092 finished.

1,902 on the start list
(ETA: 36 pages of 52 entrants and a final 37th page of 30 entrants, I’ve not actually counted them…I’ve got in on a laptop, but I’ve removed loads of M35-39 )

https://cdn3.sportngin.com/attachments/document/d439-2095485/IMUK_Start_List_11.06.2021__BIB_.pdf#_ga=2.118141769.1113549798.1625558924-70014055.1622713668

Some of them won’t have started.

So I don’t know the DNS or the DNF rate

But overall? IT IS FOOKIN’ HIGH :scream:
43%
