Ironman UK 2021

With how things went yesterday (Germany) and what’s being said today, it’s a different “gamble” to what it was last week.

Really looking forwards to seeing how people get on racing at The Big Island :palm_tree::tropical_drink::v:t5:

I’m going to accept, pay the fee and hold off on booking anything else until travel is confirmed. If no travel in Oct then we lose the fee. I would forever be kicking myself if I got given the chance but didn’t take it

Hi Joe, it’s more hill (or mud) dependent. anywhere that’s inefficient to run. or the feedback from your feet just tells you its too much like hard work. Rooster (Oxygen Addict) had a 220 artichoke once and I think it was 9 mins to 1or2 mins ratio. I count breaths. 30/40/50 steady cruise /jog to 10 powerwalk, depending on how I’m feeling or how draggy an incline is. Going down I float all the way as much as poss.

Cheers TC, makes sense to me.

Ive always used run/walk for Ironman but eventually my fitness lets me down anyway and I’m on the death march

It is a boast actually. and nowt wrong wi that. Fair play. If I tried, I’d be shuffling for England later on, not RWing.

nb. Not much innit but my last lap was my quickest. The main take home point is: You Don’t Fade #jobDone It’s like an insurance Policy. You can choose to go for broke later on if your still feeling quite perky eg run all the last lap and go for it etc. as I used to often do (which feels great to finish strong).

50-55 year old winner went 10:50! Yikes…

55-60 winner was Ed Nicol tri Preston, does well in local events too, he was 75 mins slower, seeing that drop off in several races.

60-65 went sub 12 ?!? which for me was the performance of the day.

I used to train with his brother in Derby Tri, who I bumped into at the start.
Not seen him in years.
Good bloke and very very quick himself.

Another Derby Tri member came 4th in M55-59, he’s done Kona before.

70-75 were the smart ones though. Did the swim reasonably, took one look at the rain and the bike course and said “Sod this for a game of soldiers”. :+1:

[/quote] yes I was finishing my 3rd lap and some white haired geezer was floating past me, and I noticed he had plenty of wrist bands on,and I said fairplay well done m8, (not quite sure if he had 3 or 4 bands, either way, going v well), and he turned up the finish chute for his sub 12. :o

Colour of my jersey leaving T1…

Colour of my jersey a few hours later
(Need to get my head lower)

It’s kinda a shame they take the photos there out of T1 with the speed bumps so everyone sat up.

Yeah, a few taken on the hills, too.
Some
Nice grimaces there like

Yeah quite a few races I’ve done the bike pics are at the start, round corners, or up hills. I suppose it’s easier to take a photo in focus - instead of a 30mph blur!
