Ironman UK 2021

Can’t remember it happening recently but there’s certainly a few IM branded races in America with a waiting list this year.

On the one hand they might have a better chance of it going ahead with a smaller field, on the other they need the mullah.

I don’t see an Ironman as a holiday; but I do like having a ‘destination’ event.

Btw, the standard of grammar on this thread is deteriorating. Sort it. Mainly the northerners & Scots obviously

“I’ve done fuck all training and it’s only 12 weeks until race day! Should I defer?”

What a crock of shit

One guy did it in 2018 ( the short one)
On one hour swim, bike and run per week.

Just to see if he could … IMJ Legend, mental but quite impressive.

13 something IIRC, but it was a short bike.

Haha, these people are clueless.

That short course would have knocked at least an hour off for most MOPers & BOPers (17 miles short?). In fact I know a lady that used to live in the village and she’s one & done; finished in 16:xx. She wouldn’t have made the cut-off in any other year. Plastic Ironman in all honesty.

Yes it was reduced to 95 miles, sheephouse out, a very steep but shorter climb called anglesark was added.

I think everybody that did it got huge pb”s, but it wasn’t the full distance and was a faster course generally.

Only the helmuts brag about that one.

A guy I ride with was well over 2 hours slower in 2019 with similar fitness.

The other extreme is the one and done guy who went something crazy like 9:09?!

As far as I know he never did another one.

Whilst I’ve been known to wing an ironman and get through, I had a decade of racing behind me and a lifetime of Sport. Being able to swim a little helps also but virtual non swimmers who run a few miles and have generally never raced cannot get through by thought alone

Isn’t anyone on IMJ who says “Ive got this” in respect of attempting an Ironman, considered a legend?

To a man… and woman of course !

Not sure I’ve come across many legends that stuck religiously ( so he says ) to 180 mins training per week, I’m still not sure why ?!

But I feel it’s verging on legend level, lf not the full lifetime “ ledg” applys?!?

That would be reserved for no training AT All Cocaine and becoming a virtual alcoholic for 6 months of the year then training and loosing 30% of your body weight the other 26 weeks to get done in 17 hours.

I saw someone with Legend as their middle name on Facebook IMJ or the Sub10 one.

Hanging is too good for ‘em.
