I didnae say anything. Something about Bolton people probably having to do a bit of cramming. Suggested some bloke swam more ‘encouragingly’ and signed off with ‘you got this!’

I’m sure Peloton just get their catchphrases from IMJ.

Good answers from @whisk and @Poet to show both sides! For me IMUK was perfect in that I’d just moved to the area so practicing the course was still novel and a good way to learn the area.

Convenience is brilliant and it was a great race, but biggest reason for doing it again whilst local would have been knowing course if I’d wanted to try be competitive; for general enjoyment I’d favour a new race, but having talked about it once I’m already aware how difficult it will be to pull the “holiday” card.

Apparently the pro race is back this year

You think maybe because they’re expecting less international travel, so essentially they’re ‘propping up’ the domestic scene in each of the host countries. To be clear, there is nothing charitable in their intentions i am sure. But you get my point.

Its rather sad though that they are crowing about a payday where the winner of an 8-9hr race gets just $15k. Certainly doesnt stack up when compared to ITU

I almost suspect the opposite in that they’re optimistic it might happen and will encourage Euro pro’s to turn up.

not sure bolton council will welcome the great news of a pro field :see_no_evil:

they will now have to deal with increased foot fall of triathlon geeks turning up to see the pro,s race aginst the request not to come and whatch the event :man_shrugging:

Oh sure. For IMUK it’s good. In the grand scheme of things it’s buttons

Eh?

4th July is race day.

All restrictions lifted.

Back to normal.

Covid will be but a blip in the rear view mirror.

$100,000 sounds like a big prize fund, but I’m pretty sure that’s the same as they were paying at the first HIMUK that I did at Sherborne in 2004. From memory, they were paying $10k down to $1k for the top 10 in MPRO and WPRO.

I know inflation hasn’t been super high over that time, but everyone apart from the winners (who get $15k now) is taking home less in real terms than they were in 2004.

Also remember that these races are commercial enterprises and most of the race revenue comes in entry fees, so it’s the AGers that are funding the pro prize fund.

I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but someone once told me that the reason lots of races required you had to pay for your Kona slot in cash at the rolldown was because the organisers used the cash to pay the pros

I know you’re being facetious; but when it comes to Johnny Foreigner visiting the UK, I’d like to think there will still be a load of restrictions after 21st June.

Pro athletes are exempt though aren’t they, technically working?
