Remember the mdot logo… “Anything is IMpossible”
Biden seems to be setting out his stall
When a bloke is looking at 7hrs for 230 NP then #anythingispossibleifyouputsomefuckingworkinandtrainforit
Just actually looked at my loops and ride up…then posted on IMJ.
Loads of people are doing loops now and posting their rides up.
But each loop looks to be 100-150m MORE climbing that advertised!
So I checked mine, which also tallied up with what people are doing now (and I’ve corrected and reverted it!)
Total Elevation is actually 2,760m (or 9,055ft)

Oh, also, my moving time for the loop was a few seconds over 2 hours, so pretty pleased with that, as I was barely trying
Ste Walton
Has a log in for here still I think?!
Lives and rides on those roads, he was the guy that told me it was changing in 2020.
He said it was just, and I mean just, under 9k of climbing.
Well done tj poet, nice article on the “ bigger “ website. Very informative.
You have however put several people on anti depressants for 10 weeks!
#hugeshockcoming
Maybe lose weight too. If I did an IM at 230W I would be overlooking it but would be a lot lighter than that.
People always say aero trumps weight
And it 100% does, I’ll be racing a much younger much fitter much stronger athlete this year
Calf willing !
The 21 kgs he carries extra on me, and the 9k of climbing evens it up a touch.
At the average speed most of us will be going aerodynamics don’t exsist.
( I know that’s not true ! )
Sure but with that much climbing W/kg definitely matter.
That’s a lot of watts. Consistently delivered.
Still need to figure out how to get my NP up, bike execution etc.
For one rider gauging an aero choice vs a weight choice sure.
Between two different riders not necessarily true at all.
He has more watts than a light bulb factory.
He’s got a tt bike this year too!
I didnt mean that.
I’m saying on a flat course he would beat me … by miles on the bike.
He probably won’t get down to 90 kg but he will be close ish. 93-94?
He’s a slow climber as he’s just too big.
I get the w/ kg maybe it’s a mental thing with him, he really really slows down uphill
I have a mate like that. He’s 6’3" and fairly broad across the shoulders and there are times when I am working much harder than he is just to stay on his wheels. Then anything over 5% and it’s like he’s standing still. All down to the 30+kg difference in weight.
Kurt started at 112? Kgs.
He’s very tall 6 ft 5… I think, body builder male model type, big white stick on teeth, women all over him… you know the type.
Really nice fella, takes our spin classes, and works hard.
Did Bolton in 19, as his first ever tri!
13 hours, full change and photo shoot in t2!
Set a 20 min ftp way above anyone on here who’s not on drugs but he was 107 kg at the time, his hour watts were a full 95 down as he has virtually no cycling endurance base.
Thought he would be one and done, but likes the sport
People are wondering how close this lad will get to the paid ranks ?
Looking at that I’d say… quite !
He has a great bike position.
No, wasn’t that 230NP for two laps; hammerer just extrapolated.
His weight will make a massive difference on the bike and run; I too have a friend like pacha who drops behind me in an instant when the road inclines. His outright watts mean little over the undulations; in Bolton, anyone weighing 90+kg is going to have their work cut out.
When people talk about aero trumping weight; they’re talking about the bike primarily i.e. disc wheels etc.
I did Wales at 111kg apparently. My power file says I did 210NP for 8 frigging hours. There are caveats (I think they’re also known as excuses) as I discovered afterwards that my saddle bolts had slipped and I’d slipped a couple of inches backwards from usual position (ffs…how could i not check this?) and it turns out much much later that the hot foot I endured for the last 2 hours was due to me having big feet that expanded over the course of the day until…duh…needless to say I have now discovered proper wide-fit shoes…
But yes, being big is a bastard on our current UK IM courses. Can’t we have IM UK (East Anglia)?
Never rode with him outside, a few indoor efforts , power readings are just off the scale big, but talking to others who have the difference in speed on the flat and uphill is quite dramatic.
I guess you use what you have to the best of your ability.
Agree - not only hills but lots of dead turns at the bottom of descents killing speed. Plus running up that park on later laps feels like Everest!
