Ironman UK 2021

You can run tubs lower, without the same risk of pinch flats as conventional clinchers.

6h 25m to get there for me, would love to but I haven’t got the brownie points for overnight stays.

Plus you need to now ask Wally’s permission before you’re allowed in. He’s the boss now.

Drakeford?
Why’s he called Wally?

I said those exact words ish … to two local athletes, one runs tubs for short races.

I have several brilliant tub wheels, the xentis HM tt wheel set was designed for Bolton … but like them I’m just not confident enough to change a tub at speed in a race, I can do it, but it’s normally 2-3 cups of coffee and half an hour at least.

The sealant can worked perfectly once, and failed miserably ( taxi ) another time.

One guy is going gators with sealant ( tubs) and carrying a tin and one gas! ( pray )

All the roads in the Uk are bad now apart from Oulton park, but these ones are savage.

No wonder it takes 30 mins if you’re stopping to drink all that coffee.

I got my tyre of my rear PX in about two minutes and mounted it to the disc in about three minutes.

And that included removing tape and centring it.

In a race?

If a can of sealant fails…then…

Stanley blade taped to seat mast.
Slice it across (whilst crying) and just rip it off.
Slap on pre-stretched, pre-ridden, pre-taped tub.
CO2 inflator to 120PSi.
Off you go.

I’ve mounted, inflated and stuck the wheel back in ,in under a minute (without race pressure)

If it was in a race, I’d probably take the time to have a good five minute rest, have a leak, quick snack, think about life and why I’m dressed in Lycra on some bleak hillside.

Wally on the IM Wales medal this year?

He could well be.

The # wallythewalrus is quite a popular one these days.

Yeah I’m not chancing the car again, last time I drove up with the family took from morning until night. That’s train time I’m quoting, I suppose I could fly but that’s a ballache.

Plus one for Tom being one to watch out for. I was hoping after 2019 to start training with him but never happened, and judging from his strava and that recent duathlon Mungo I wouldn’t have a chance now anyway! He’ll upset a few pros/be a contender for AG win.

flight is pointless as its still a couple of hours from Cardiff. when i drove we got stuck just past Bath to the bridge a bit but wasn’t too bad. I wasn’t prepared for it taking longer to drive across Wales than it did England though  Crossed the bridge thought , not far now

That’s the classic mistake heading to South Wales, cross the bridge or even get to Cardiff and think it can’t be far now. I used to travel there regularly with work and never really got rid of that mind-set.
It’s similar with Bristol and the Southwest.

Spare a thought for Gavin and Stacey did you?

Classic!

@jeffb and @Chriswim might know this one…

…M62/M1 to York area.
It is then UTTER HELL to get to Brid/Scarbs/Whitby from there.

45 miles?
That’ll be 90 minutes, pal.

WTAF???
I’ve just done 100 miles in that time :face_with_monocle:

Haha, yep.

Just be thankful of the roads that go into Tenby these days. It wasn’t that long ago that the M4 would stop in Cross Hands, Dual Carriageway to Carmarthen and then you’d be single tracking like a badman all the way into Pembs!

Haha, yes, as soon as you leave the big roads it gets very slow. That road from Whitby to Scarborough is shocking, can almost cycle it as quickly!

Okay, @Matthew_Spooner - is this Manual, or do you have some {Python} code to scrape the start list against Endurance Data / ObsTri?

@SidSnot - Or do you? Or have you just gone down the list manually?
