Not very scientific …
But a picture paints a thousand words…
Yep, first time I headed to LCW I thought that about 20mins after crossing the bridge. 2hrs later I was still going!
I made the mistake once of filling up at that servo that is right at the end of the M4 on the roundabout, FMD, second mortgage.
When heading to Tenby I join the M4 at the M25, always say to the Mrs ‘nearly there, just this road then hook a left.,…’
Not good news coming from Bolton at the minute
“economic and social restrictions could be reimposed in parts of England if necessary”
Bad times.
Quick @jgav - Get more buses and vaccines sent to Bolton and Blackburn-with-Darwen

ETA: I tested negative (lateral flow) after my visit
There isn’t a little part of you that’d be relieved if it’s cancelled?
But it seems like he’s really enjoying himself!
@gingerbongo - do I detect Sarcasm there?
Part of me is, I’m just sick to death of the weather in comparison to this time last year
My paid-for-day-job-work TSS would be about 100/day at the minute, too.
Should be finishing the current project in the next week, TFFT

I feel super fit at the moment.
My swimming is probably the best it’s ever been and my long distance cycling is, too.
Run speed has dipped, but my 4:50/km pace vs HR is exactly where I’d dream it to be.
So I’m feeling like I’m ready for this…
@jorgan - No! As above, I definitely want it to go ahead. I’ve used annual leave days and spent money on nutrition and upgrades!
If it’s postponed, then the taper is useless and it’s a vicious cycle of trying to claw back fitness VS recovery.
Yep, IM is an investment in every sense.
But it’s life changing!
Jesting aside, it can be.
It was my gateway into endurance sport and the place i find myself in. If i’d not stumbled across tri, i’d still be playing football every Saturday, nursing an increasingly battered body/ permanently injured.
Yeah I get you, I think it genuinely is an awesome achievement. When I got into way back, you have to qualify to enter IMOZ (back then there was only one in Forster), proper qualify, not just validate. It was not easy, although sometimes a mail to Ken or Glenda Baggs would get you in, if you’d done 3 HIMs and still not made it.
I think it was the hurdles that you had to overcome that made it this unattainable ‘thing’. I suppose with the advent of many many races in the calendar now, it’s easy to forget the impact.
I’m pretty proud of what I’ve done but that is more to do with my own adversity to overcome, rather than the races themselves and I chose a non IM to do my first 226 distance tri.
I was already doing a lot of endurance sport though, so it became a ‘bolt on’ in many ways but I do remember my ‘wow this is special’ moment and it wasn’t at an IM. It was at the first NSW Club Champs that I went to. (back then you could enter as an individual), three of us from Oracle entered after only doing one enticer in Sydney.
Seeing the clubs, the huge event, the buzz, the crowds and the whole scene, totally hooked me into it. That certainly set the direction of my sporting life for decades.
Yeah tbf my entry into the game was London Tri 3 years before my IM in 2010. A mate had notified me about it and asked if i wanted to do it with him. Don’t think i knew anything about triathlon. Literally nothing. Had never owned or even ridden a road bike before.
Finished in 3+ hours and it was a big achievement for me just finishing the thing, being such a huge unknown. Did it all solo as well, as my mate sacked it off pretty much as soon as i’d booked! haha.
I signed up for London in 2007 for charity after watching tri for years thinking that looks fun, ended up building up to it during the year by entering Eton Dorney as my first , then Blenheim , The Bananaman was a 3/4 then London Oly. wanted sub 3hrs did sub 2:45. Next year i decided to get faster, sub 2:30 was done. First “long” event was Austria 70.3 in 2010 then Forestman 2011
Not a bad report but he needs the power of the crowd, and 5 kg of TW this fella.
Hope he makes it!
Saw that yesterday. Not a bad post
A touch under 13mph avg though
“The buzz of the day will give you speed”
He went down sheephouse in the wet with brakes that were obviously an ornament of some description …!
He’s my hero already !
I was thinking more Darwin candidate
He PMd me, seems like a decent chap and actually knows what he’s doing
And he’s made the effort to recce the course, which is going to be invaluable come race day.
Fair play to him for doing two loops the day I did them, too.
It was utterly grim
