Ironman UK 2021

Exactly this :+1:t3:
It’ll roll all the way down to me anyhow :man_shrugging:t4:

I reckon it’ll be a “put your hand up if…” jobbie.

Would you go if KQ?

No.

The IMJ crowd will be very disappointed if you don’t KQ

Well, seeing as loads of foreign athletes can’t come here without quarantining…and for us here in the UK are banned from travelling to the US, I’d expect the slots to be a free for all :man_shrugging:t4:

Isn’t taking a Slot a huge gamble? At least for 2021. I mean, what’s the backlog from last year?!

Still seems like the preserve of the (even more) affluent, given the uncertainty.

Maybe 2 questions then

Would you go if you KQ this year (A=no)
Would you go if you KQ in a “normal” year?

I know you’re not asking me, and I’d never be good enough. But I wouldn’t go. It’d be nice to know you/I could qualify, but I’d rather spend that dollar on a cooler race like Norseman or Altriman or Patagonman etc.

I’m 39 and have just bought a house, which was only affordable because it’s knackered from being tenanted previously.

I can think of far better things to spend £10k on at the moment :+1:t3:

I expect a “normal” year to occur around 2029 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

ETA: I’ve seen I (alone) can get there and back for about £2.5-3k but that’s sleeping in airports arriving in Kona Thursday, leaving Sunday.
So that’s no fun at all!!!

This suddenly doesn’t sound like such a hard no (In that you checked )

Not sure it’s that much of a gamble, I mean you may not go, but the costs are presumably not that high if you are actually still denied entry to the US.

Of course kona during kona is absolutely 100% a place to avoid, but if it’s your chance to go and you want to, I don’t think the risk is that high, it’s still an expensive trip of course.

Aid stations are out, I’m told … they were all moaning about it…!

Even the ones who don’t moan about much…?!
I’ll get the details.

I mean, you’d think they’d send an email.
Right?

Just asked GG to send it me, I’m 99 % certain they have it…?!

Yep both Hamburg and Austria (the only ones I have done) have lots of shade on the run so even temps in the mid to high 20s were bearable

There on about this one… I’ll get you the map, think he’s on his bike… again.

Great effort this morning from Dave Smith, ex elite runner, 1:45 loop…

35-40 is looking stacked already !

You’re like the Bob Babbitt of IMUK @Mungo2. Got the intel on everyone that’s riding the course, when, how fast, what they think of it, what tri sites they’re on. :joy:

Do you have a little ring binder folder as well

Yeah - just seen that :scream::scream::scream:
That’s an awful sweeping bend with loads of potholes, too.

Stupid place for an aid station.
They could easily carry it up the road to Edgworth.

The one near Delph sailing club is in the lay-by - good place.
But then there are no more aid station until Bolton???

So you’ve one in Bolton, then 9 miles later, then about 8 miles later, then not another one for about 13 miles???
Makes zero sense.
