Ironman UK 2021

Really need dry roads on this loop.

#survival

Wind needs to be in the other direction, really.
Bolton is more sheltered, so the wind will be harder up Edgworth, Belmont etc.
That climb up the Pike will be grim with a headwind.

An easterly is where it’s at :+1:t3:

Someone just said that …!

At my level and we’re im at I really don’t care about the wind.

I’m using a box section front anyway.

If it’s wet, I’ll be quicker running down sheephouse cyclocross style, I HATE that descent.

This!!!
Think I’ve probably moaned about this before but the two times KQ’d I hit a maximum TSS of around 132. In between that I had a disastrous experiment with going higher. I was between jobs in the summer of 2018 and I was racing Wales that year. I took the opportunity to train the house down and hit a maximum of 150TSS and was completely fried by the time the race came around and had an awful day. Tss now represents a limit for me - something to restrain me rather than something that encourages me to go higher.
For me getting to 132 TSS means consistent training weeks of 10 hrs ramping up to an average of 14 hrs during a normal IM build. The last 3 week block might be 16hrs with one or two 18hr weeks when I’m doing a ‘big day’. That’s not only the most I can manage physically its also the most my life/wife/family can manage. The Wales experience was helpful for me in that I no longer feel I’m missing out by not training more. I’d need a TON more rest to absorb the amount of training I tried to do that year.
I guess the underlying theme is that we all need to work out what works for us and what is manageable for us as individuals. I daren’t go past 132 but seems @Matthew_Spooner is well equipped to absorb a much bigger training load.

I’m a few levels below Kona Q, but right course right day, I would be near the roll down spots.

I think.

Funkster May have done more, but that’s not the completion we crave.

I think I’ve done more hours this year than anyone as far as I can see, but I’m not a commited tri guy … my circuits, core and boxing sessions are as important to me as anything else I do.

I’ve basically worked one day a week this year so far with three sets of nights that make up the hours, i have no other responsibilities I am literally a time millionaire.

I enjoy training, more so than Racing these days, not sure why?

Have I overdone it… probably … but the
Calf
Crash
Cough ( Tests start tomorrow )

Could have happened to anyone … or so I’m told.

Doesn’t seem much like fun at the min this.

So, yet more fffing around in the basement.

This be ma spares kit;

I’m debating the IB3 multi-tool (270g) for a Pedro Chain Tool (70g, 4mm Allen key and flat head) and a tyre lever (9g), but then I’d need a 2.5mm and 5mm Allen key, too (21g)
And I’d be missing some options should something catastrophic happen :grimacing:

For the sake of 170g, I reckon the IB3 will stay.

Couple of valve cores (I’ve previously bent one and had to call for a rescue, so always carry spares now)

Chain link (chain snapped at Belvoir one year, luckily a TTer “dropped” his spares just in front of me “by accident”)

Spare tubular and a can of rapid inflate, plus some gloves and a good luck charm.

Currently like this;

But now I’m wondering should I just stick my dual BTS bottle holder on?
Put the spares in a bottle, then I’d have one extra gap for a water bottle.

Mainly thinking “what if my aero bottle flies off?”
Because it did so on a recce on a downhill, so I drove back round to get it.

Hmm…

How are you planning on taking more fluid on with the current set up?? Assume you’re not filling the aero bottle on the fly?

Aero bottle to have three sachets of Maurten 320 concentrate in.
Squirt 1/3 of that into the BTA, top up with aid station water (which comes in a cycling bottle that I then need to dispose of somehow?!)

So if I lose the aero bottle, I’ve just lost £10 and I’m on the Gatorade.
Grab two bottles; One to decant, one to go BTS.

ETA; OH! Just realised I’ve not got my BTA bottle
On in that photo :rofl::rofl::rofl:

:grin: yeah thats what confused me.

You should be able to squeeze the water that you’ve picked up from the aid station into your BTA bottle then immediately bin the picked up bottle no?
They usually have bins for a short while after the aid stations.

Are the aid stations a normal affair where someone is handing up a bottle?

Just looked through the Staffs athlete guide and didn’t see a mention of this?

I’ve had ZERO emails off Ironman with race numbers and race week details, so I’m wondering if I’ve missed the one about online registration for booking my time slot for next week?

Or is that not out yet?

So, Octagon NCP (BL1 1SN) is literally opposite the bus stop for the swim start, then super close to the finish line :+1:t3:

Going back to Queens Park to collect bikes looks
Like a proper ball ache :soccer::softball::confounded:

@Mungo2 - I think for the sake of an £18 Vittoria Rally tubular, I’ll leave one in my bike special needs bag (Located at: 18, 49 & 81 Miles - so looks like it’s the Gatorade Feed Station in Bolton Town Centre)

@mw22 - Think I’m gonna go with this. All the spares seem more accessible (I’ll tidy up the Velcro saddle bag thing)
