When I get asked about tri it’s normally one of these;
- How do you fit the training in?
- You must be naturally fit!
- How long is the race?
- Really that long? All in one go?

Dunno, it sounds like he had the time to shout multiple times but not enough time to put the brakes on. Though I didn’t see it, so who knows.
suspected so - but be interesting to know how many didn’t make cut-off just due to being too slooooooow
Rookie does it year in year out through sensible pacing, lots of single loops and the power of the crowd… he genuinely believes that.
He starts out going for 17 hours so doesn’t blow at any point.
This is a naturally not very fit person who smokes and drinks lots from now until Xmas he does NO training till NYD, then starts again.
If he can do it
Exactly.
He’s done the training, know what he can do and executes his plan
Fair play to people who do that
A lad at my work had a slow AF bike & got the Shepherd’s crook early on the run. Not spoken to him yet, I’m a bit ashamed for him .
wrt DQs, it reminds me of a story that @jeffb was telling me about a ruckus that kicked off in T2.
Go on…

I know someone (as does @Symes ) in the Pirates who closely matches that profile. Has multiple IM finishes, mostly between 16 and 17hrs, and has done Kona through the legacy program.
For some reason he is held in great esteem by many - mostly newbies - on the basis of “if that idiot can do it then so can I” and people look up to him.
Personally I think he’s a tosser but hey, what do I know??
You look at IMJUK before race day and it’s all
So the Cotswold thread basically?
Fork that.
They all better be bringing a mop and bucket, cos the floor is getting wiped.
37kmh on yesterdays ride for me. No aero kit either.
I might not be able to run fast, but can point a bike at a flat road and pedal it quite well
Go on…
I’m sure @jeffb will tell it better. I must admit he didn’t have my full attention, I was focused on the runners running out & back in front of us & the tail end cyclists setting off on their last loop.

Can you do that with 17 punctures tho
Unfortunately there was a period where mediocrity was celebrated and there wasn’t really any pushing of each other to get to better times. I often wonder what I could have done if I’d hit tritalk first and not rw, oh well…

Not sure if it was the same thing but this was a local who I think was trying to sneak through the barriers to cross the path instead of going round and started getting a bit aggressive.
He was a decent size but the marshal who was a fairly young lad wasn’t having it and started wrestling with him, before a few others piled on
Humble AF as well
There were a few who were very much not in the mediocre stakes when the Pirates started - The Count, Cartman, Rosey, Twinkler, Mellifera and t’other half, Doozer, CRAB etc - and put the hard yards in and got decent results including a few sub-10’s/11’s. But they saw the way things were heading with mediocrity and people just doing it 'cos they wanted the kit - FOMO principle - and that’s when the whole thing went west for me.
You were capable of better times - your running showed that - and I think you had a 10-11’ish in you if you trained more fully.
Malaysia has has higher than that I’m sure
From super fast Tom Rigby all the way to rookie I respect them all.
It’s just a bit of fun, in 10,20,30 years time will anyone really remember who was the fastest/ slowest?
My social media can get a bit toxic and “ luvvie “ at times I guess, but words are wind as they say.
If someone wants to do 100 16-17 hour full distances good luck röntgen I say, the guy who went 10 something in his only ever tri in 2018 ( short course ) good luck to him as well, alot of my non tri friends still view swim bike run as a bit mad and quite elitist, the latter being a label we should really lose now.
Hot hot hot !
Not for me, although it’s beautiful I believe
Yeah pretty humid as well. One year, every finisher got a Kona spot
