Bit of spirulina for everyone - fortify them up for the race
Wow is that the race done and dusted?!
Great time
Superb! Congrats

IMO if your a 4hr IM runner you SHOULD be power walking this uphill drag section thru the park regardless. Gives you time to recover to do CNR better, and less overall chance of dying later on. It’s a good economical opportunity to refuel, get your HR & temp down, and basically just settle down a bit out of the red zone. And all for little time lost. An investment basically. Just same as when you were going easier on the bike. The CNR may not need to be so feeble.
Very wise words @Toyota_Crown - I’d completely agree. Next time!
Fairly sure Lanza this year was in the high 20s percetange-wise too
I think this needs to happen now, the moving 70.3 has reignited interest in it and as much as Kona has the heritage I think it’s cost and logistics will increasingly count against it.
was that due to the course or factors
Losers.
The lot of ‘em.
I bet they didn’t spend their day cursing at the side of the road fixing punctures before running out of spares?
Maybe Jeff’s niece did.
The start list isn’t the actual start list, though.
It’s more registered athletes.
I bet loads just DNS’d.
You look at IMJUK before race day and it’s all
“My longest ride has been 3km…and that was in 1972”
“I’ve not been able to run, and I can barely walk to my car, will I be okay?”
“My swimming pool is 21m from my front door, so isn’t convenient for me to go, so I’ve not swam since I did my Asa2 in Year 6. Will I drown?”
“What happens if I puncture? Will someone change it for me? Because I don’t know how to do it”
“If I need to use the portaloo, will someone wipe my arse? My hands will be too busy updating TikTok with what an absolute legend I am”
I mean. Even Tim Don DNFd as he was too cold last year.
Like a thermal jersey for the bike would’ve cost him what, 30s to put on?
Etc etc
LATEST WTC ANNOUNCEMENT
IMWC to take place in October, in BOLTON 2024
That’ll sort ‘em all out.
Yep. Afraid I’m with the Poet on this one.
People (not all, but many) will just use those figures to justify why they DNF’d rather than face the responsibility of it being their own fault. Crashes, illness, critical mechanical etc aside.
I liked that quote that @FatPom put up from the Lakesman guy.
Also a favourite from my RD mate ‘don’t enter epic shit if you’re as weak as piss’. That’s mental as well as physical.
It’s just endemic to the ‘want it now’ culture. People want to Amazon Prime, 1 click, next day deliver an Ironman. No effort needed.
Nobody wants to hear that you just need to put in the work day in and day out. No super equipment, no super products, no super training ‘hacks’. Just being consistently active, planning for multiple eventualities and a sprinkle of luck in race day.
you’d know
brilliant btw
so, how many starters??
He’s massively wrong, not sure where he’s got his numbers from??? Maybe he’s made them up.
1,554 athletes registered to start the race
53 DNSd
1501 athletes started on Sunday morning
1.3% dropped out in the swim (19 people)
12.3% dropped out on the bike (182 people)
4.3% dropped out on the run (57 people)
Overall DNF rate of 17.2% (258 people)
DQd - 6 people
A tough mudder chap at work decided to enter Weymouth 70.3 2021 on the basis of having seen a few photos of people in the Pirates who had finished Lakesman and Outlaw.
They aren’t what you’d call typical IM athletes or any kind of athlete really but they put an absolute shitload of work in to get to the start and finish line but he didn’t know that and didn’t ask, just the assumption that if they can do it then he can.
He DNS-d
All kinds I think.
Not fit enough, taking forever to mend a puncture, mechanicals, injuries… forgetting to eat… at all.
It’s a tough course. Bike especially.
No idea.
I just screen shotted that, there seems to be an awful lot on IMJ who didn’t get there medal this year.
The story of the guy who crashed into a “ spectator “ 200 yards from t2 ( he’s awaiting surgery, looks like a nasty one ) is paticulary sad…
It’s only a sport, it’s not the end of the world, I think a few under estimated the bike to be honest.
Absolutely fair play if you actually do the 100 mile rides, 20 mile runs and 2 mile swims before race day, then whatever, conspires against you.
I mean, IMUK does seem to attract a certain crowd.
Those that are more likely to not finish an event.
does that include those who didn’t make the cut-off?? be interesting to know how many didn’t make that
Well, yeah.
But you can’t tell from the results who rode into a fence/spectator/hedge, who ran out of spare tubes, whoo couldn’t get their tubeless tires off for the first time ever and who just trundled in late…
