In your case keep turning the pedals …!

My vote is for a 42km pub crawl. Pub/pint every 6km. That way you can combine your end of day reward with the “cooldown” portion of your Ironman :grinning:

Okay, hours 4-5 were just awful. I hesitate to call it a second wind but at 5h I felt better even if output stayed awful…why do we do this?

I am pretty cold already and not looking forward to the run :sob:

Crawl is going to be the right word either way!

The funny thing is that Im actually running past two pubs - at the start and at the 5km mark of a 10km loop. Maybe just a half in each, right?

It’d be rude not to, right.

I reckon some of my IM marathons would have gone better with some alcohol…offered a lot of beer at IM Bolton and would have accepted but for the fear of DQ if I’d been seen!

Can’t be more harmful to the average IM death March than Red Bull!..that stuff nearly finished me off…never had it before and it made me feel very nauseous indeed.

:smile_cat: I too have been tempted by the beer offers at Bolton. But Im the kind of ass thats snaps at the kids handing out jelly babies, so Stella hold no sway over me.

Good luck anyway. You can update us from a booth in the pub if you need to warm up and get ahem hydrated

Yeah, remember the medal you get will be so rare. :+1:

Reckon you’ll be able to sneer at Norseman black t shirt owners…

“Oh yeah…I did the virtual IM in 2020…no back up, no supporters, nowt…just me and some pork scratchings at 40km…”

I was very slow and very late at the midnight sun half marathon in tromso, had such a bad run - I’d not slept in days with the travel and endless f’ing sun - oh and I was a really crap runner - but even then I was going badly. But running into the middle of Tromso in mid summer after midnight meant there were loads of drunk norwegians on the street offering beers. I didn’t accept any though, I probably wouldn’t’ve made it, the people waiting for me were already getting worried.

That’s IM Wales for all us slow guys in a nutshell. Lots of beer, lots of temptation, lots of chance of never resurfacing if you so much as down 1ml of the amber nectar!

Time to findf a flatter route before the leg gives out entirely.
