Your biggest issue with gearing like that might actually be wheel slip on the steep climbs if it is greasy. I had 53/27 on the day and as I was out of the saddle on the steep one the back wheel did slip a bit.
You aren’t going to struggle with 42/30 though, may burn a bit more than you’d want but you won’t be pushing.
I re-ran my numbers on BBS as the 6h40 just didn’t seem realistic to me with using a lower IF/FTP and where my fitness is currently. I changed the course map to IMW 2023 and it amended my estimate to 7h07 which feels much more accurate. I don’t know if the course has changed recently or the original map I used was just inaccurate.
This bike is gonna be the death of me. Front shifter not working now after being recabled last week. So back down to the bike shop today for an emergency appointment.
Also spent ages wrestling with it to get the brakes to work with the disc wheel, which it turns out is a fair bit wider than the training wheel!
The Trinity is horrid to work on. There is about 0.5mm of space for any excess cable to open the back brake up. Luckily, with 2 of us we managed to use that tiny bit of slack to just about open it! No way one person on their own could’ve done that. Also finding that taking the rear wheel on and off is flippin difficult with 1, but quite straightforward with 2 people due to the way the derailleur is shaped!
I really really really hope I don’t have any bike issues in Sunday! It’s my biggest fear. Months of prep to be undone by a shitty mechanical issue.
That’s the only reason I’m going back again. 2017 was the only race I’ve ever had a dnf and all down to a mechanical. My stupid head wouldn’t let it go.
@gingerbongo if you do have horizontal dropouts I find it helps if you take the QR skewer off when taking the wheel off - it always seems to but up against the rear derailleur
