Ironman Wales 2023

I don’t think I have ever been this relaxed about any event ever (translate can’t be arsed). Just packing bike, which is a ball ache.

I have not fully recovered from TCR, my lap of the lake today 40k @ 245w NP was OK, however, my neck is still sore so 1 hour in aero position isn’t nice, 6 hours won’t be fun. I realise that I have not actually swum 3.8k since Kona.

Just throwing it all in a bag and hope I don’t forget anything important.

As long as I finish under 12 hours I won’t be disappointed

My girlfriends boss is all over this … dentist but still a nice person !
he went 12 hours or so at Lanza this year after a very small amount of training

He’s in MUCH better shape now

I’m going full Bolton and predicting he beats the tri talk pencil neck massive with ease …!

Mr me … beat my Bolton prediction… but no defeats this time.

Great duathlete too …! Could come in handy on Sunday

As long as he slashes spooners tyres and nicks your £300 trainers he’s home free.

Seriously my mate from Bolton did a one hour swim and a 6 hour bike which was above his expectations then lost alot of time on the run 11:40 ? ish total. And his run is his strength did a 57 min? 10 mile a few months before !

Sundays hot shot had the swim of his life at wales last time and his carbon bike shoe snapped in half at 40? Miles on the bike … game over!
I hope you all do well and tame the dragon.

57 minute 10 mile run is somewhat intimidating, that’s the real deal for someone who does IM :muscle:

He looked rough on the run.
Too much carbs he reckons ?!

The ten miler was a stand-alone race obviously, pan flat near Blackpool. I’ve done a 59;50 but it wasn’t this decade or the last one!

Ageing is crap sometimes !

hope it warms up for you boys at the weekend - it’s pissing down and 10C in Y Bannau when walking the dog just now. that’s more November weather than Summer!

Can’t stop sneezing and have a really snotty nose this morning. Starting to feel the effects of no exercise since Saturday as well. Going to have to find time to squeeze in a run this evening i think or i’m going to totally seize up.

Weather is looking freakishly good at the mo. I think i’m more happy for the spectators than me. I know i can race in any conditions, but knowing that the family can have a pleasant afternoon takes a lot of stress away from me.

For anyone looking to carbo load, the Vista Cafe do a jacket potato the size of a football, or so a ‘friend’ told me.

How’s your bike?

Still waiting to hear. Was expecting to be ready yesterday. So either my mate was unexpectedly busy in the shop or it’s causing him headaches and he’s not my friend any more! :joy:

All this talk of centre lines. We didn’t worry about that in 2014… It’s all about the racing line you know and hoping nobody is filming!

That descent into Wisemans would be hard not to cross the line if you have any speed.

The centre line thing is a pretty standard rule isn’t it? Which most people don’t stick religiously too, just don’t get by the motos.

Maybe @fatbuddha can comment, but I don’t understand the centre line requirement on a closed road one-way course. Is it to keep the other side free for motos and safety vehicles?

Yeah, I believe it is a standard rule. But but but… I may have accidentally crossed it once or twice on the descent towards the end of IM France many years ago. So much fun was had! #naughty
