we have Omegas - kind of precursor to Enigma. Omega was run by Mark Reilly who went bust in 2006 and ended up doing the initial designs for the Enigma brand with Jim Walker who owns it. Jim and Mark fell out and Mark was pushed out and went to set up 2 other bike brands one of which went bust. Reillycycles is still running but Mark died a couple of years ago - he was a great Ti bike builder but a shit businessman!

Enigma have just gone from strength to strength

Could Cam Wurf be first off the bike, given the challenging course?

Sounds like they recorded some pros riding and talking through sections of nice to ride along to

——

Penny dropped that it’s nice so no stupid time zone issues. Might ride along the virtual nice course on race day. What time are the pros starting on Sunday?

Edit

From the athletes guide the pros start at 06:50 AG at 07:00, so if that’s French time, will be an 05:50 start here

Of course!

Ironically that means I’ll likely miss it as we’ll be out and about with the family in the daytime. The eve/night is the only opportunity I have to dominate the lounge! :joy:

I’m looking at the field and thinking so.

Without the ITU champs it’s a test for the new long course generation, Neumann, Ditlev, Laidlow…vs Frodo, Lange etc. I hope.

My heart wants Skipper on the podium but as he’s come second to Ditlev twice I can’t put money on it.

My boss messaged me today……he was doing some work for BA in Nice.
‘I have just been talking to a bloke called Blumenfeld have you heard of him?’
Er ‘yes’ I replied ‘he is a bit of a weapon’
Boss says to him my mate does triathlon too!
Then Team KB ushered him away
Laughing all day

Yes, he says this is the first race he’s properly trained for too.

Laidlow has had a bit of a crap season so far. Neumann is out, he’s not racing due to injury.

Ditlev will go well if he’s carrying his Roth form for sure.

As I said earlier I think the French lads will go well this year too. Chevrot and Chavalier in particular.

Be interesting to see what Wurf can bring having focussed on this one. But with Frodo and Ditlev biking really well, I think a podium will be the best he could nab.

I’ve been thinking Chevalier must be a strong dark horse ever Nice was announced - after Kona, Skipper said he couldn’t keep with him on the climbs and that before that Chevalier had been pulling Wurf along too. Think he biked the same as Wurf.

I think he’s fairly local and has been studying till recently so only really been 100% all in on tri for 18 months or so?

Certainly seen a lot more running and swimming on his Insta the last few months. Normally he seems to do a couple of weeks of panic swimming and running focus before a race.

Quite excited to see how this one pans out really - hoping for some nice big gaps on the run, and then presumably some blow ups there.

Think Jan might do well, he rarely seems to make mistakes in terms of pacing, and I think this race might suit someone who’s very strong and very patient.

I reckon it’s a safe bet, so what do I win if Skipper ends up in Monaco?

There is a big advantage for local athletes who know the descent. Wurf and Skipper are great cyclists, but I think they are too big to be great climbers probably Dietlev and Bluemendelt as well. chevalier is my dark horse, would love to see Jan win a final race

Snap! Although clearly a different sign at the top.

Loved that course, even if I’m not a natural climber.

Just listened to the last Oxygen Addict podcast from @Rooster & he mentioned the Precision Fuel & Hydration videos of the bike course. Looks like a great bit of homework for you @jeffb …I’m very jealous, some great memories.

I’m all in for Cam Wurf for the win.
