Ironman Yorkshire 😍

At least they get to run around a nice part of Leeds.

4 x 10.6km around residential roads :joy:

You know, like a training jog?

That’s abysmal.

Leeds? My arse.
More like Ironman Suburbia UK.

The bike course also looks :poop: - like someone said, it’s just Bolton again. But over the border.

I can’t like that.

I had a street view at a couple of spots on the course, looks like mostly small lanes & not so many pot holes. Should be ok with closed roads. Not epic though like it could have been.

What did people want to see from the bike course that is missing? I don’t know the roads well enough to comment, so wonder what everyone else is latching on to?
From.the map it doesn’t look as suburbia as the East half of the Bolton course

Yes 2 laps, getting further out would be an expectation but clearly councils want to restrict road closures, and potentially IM too trying to keep costs down but keeping contained
But other than that?
Im hazy but thought the bit around Eccup was ok? I ran there couple of times. And Think even nicer if could have gone further West towards Otley/Horsforth?

That run on the other hand, looks meh from the map even if completely closed roads. I’d take Outlaw and Bolton chorley road out and backs instead

I know not place to pass comment as not entered, BUT was hardly worth the wait for the courses

its got the look of Bolton ,run looks pants

At least Bolton went through the town for support and finished outside the town hall.

I guess people were expecting the bike to head further out and be a single lap or something, maybe the likes of Blubberhouses and into the Dales but that was unlikely to happen.

The bike course could have gone further nice and take in some proper Dales countryside. They’re using the A61 which is the biggest road they would need to disrupt, they could then go up to the A59, some good rolling terrain and more of what people would expect from a ride in the Dales.

The run route is difficult as the other side of the park, to North, is a bit of shit hole area, not massively rough but not great. Had they done a similar route to the original Leeds WTS one in town, while massively disruptive, the atmosphere was great and would give the participants a good vibe. It is one day and businesses would probably do alright over the course of the weekend.

Like @jeffb said - up to Blubberhouses and the Cheviot would’ve been awesome

The run course looks utterly :poop:
Something I’d do as a jog.

Whilst Outlaw / Bolton (hell, even Roth!) are nothing to write home about, at least they’re on wide open roads with a bit about them.

Not just jogging through an urban throng of homes.

The strategy might be as per Staffs; get established outside of town then get the race in town for once it’s been run/gets established/ ‘look at how inspiring it is’ etc?

They did also release a video online saying their original course had to be scraped due to unforeseen issues etc.

Were those issues that the residents of the Dales didn’t want to be kettled in their homes for the day while some folks in Lycra went for a nice bike ride?
:roll_eyes::rofl:

Just sheep and a few farms up there.

Maybe on the route itself, but if you start closing roads you make it difficult for other people to get around :man_shrugging:

Yeah but it would be all the walkers going to Grassington or somewhere. Tell them to walk!

Only messing I get it but do think for one day they could have had a good bike course. By keeping the run based around the park, that would be difficult to do anything but run around houses. They decided to stick to running aroumd nice houses by the look of it.

Presumably Leeds Council are fully onboard already, and I’m sure they will have a Brownlee or 2 there on the day to whip up the crowd. I think I would want a city centre finish minimum. Don’t know anything about the bike terrain around there, but 3 laps and all those out and backs would annoy me.

Wales still has it beat.
