But surely the attraction of the endless pool is not the cost saving, it’s the time saving - not having to travel to the pool and being able to swim at irregular hours when the pool is closed - there’s certainly no pool near me open outside 8am-10pm at absolute best, and that’s ignoring the times when it’s full of aqua aerobics or kids or stuff.
I’d say the attraction is that it sounds appealing for someone who wants to swim frequently, of having it on your doorstep. Those people should buy a house near a swimming pool!
I can’t see the attraction of getting in that tub continuing beyond a few times. Build a proper heated/conditioned pool house then maybe.
He’s a full time athlete, surely he’s got time to go to a good pool
The thing about the bolts … they weren’t the right bolts… such flimsy bolts
It was rivet ing
… “You see the problem with it is - the bolts they supply: they don’t go up to eleven’
I know who he reminds me off now - Nigel Tufnel
He got it during lockdown, no pools.
His goes up to 11 metres
Ive said on here before the high performance model which iirc only had max speed on 1.20/100 was £38k (in 2020) fitted but didnt include the outbuilding, power connection , plumbing work needed, tiling you may want.
My mate (his EP in excess of £50k in 2017-8ish) was paying £300 pcm extra at the same time heating it so a grand in this current climate isnt unlikely. They are also VERY noisy. Imagine a shower pump x 100
Why doesn’t he just drive to a pool? Or join a more exclusive club. He’s burning silly money.
His is open til 11
He’s used it 50 times in 1.5yrs, I’m sure he does.
His seaside rental property in Cromer covers it.
He should join @joex at a masters club, would learn from the best. Even our smallish nondescript club in a semi urban hellhole has swimmers that would show elite long course triathletes a clean pair of heals , 3 * 90minutes of that a week and you would soon improve. And a lot cheaper than even pre Putin power prices of £300 a month!
What time is it though?
An ungodly 6am?
Or some ridiculous evening slot?
Wedged awkwardly between putting the kids to bed, eating supper and going to bed to be up at 6am with the kids?
Anyways. Skipper - he’ll be at Norwich Union doing some office admin in his 40s
with an annual gig commentating on Kona, well an hour or so until he says something not very PC
Either way, that sort of outlay is new car expensive, I wonder if it was bought on Klarna? Nothing like the residuals either, I wouldn’t have thought.
I dunno.
He got $35k (at least) from PTO last year.
t’Internet has him at ~$1.5mn net worth
But neglects to mention he spunks all of that on heating his endless pool
It made me think about how much coaching you’d have to do to just cover the power each month, even at a grand that’s probably 15 sessions before you start to break even on endless pool power alone and realistically adding premises, normal power, fag packet maths you are going to have to be coaching at least 2 sessions a night just to break even, then recoup all the outlay, and after that feed the kids. That’s a lot of triathletes you need to find every month! There’s the guy in Canary Wharf who runs a swim coaching business, his costs must be horrendous.
A nice down payment from PTO no doubt, that’s the type of lottery funding British Tri give to the top athletes, but cant see how any Ironman is making anything like 7 figures, unless they are German former Olympic champions
or not as the video says
