Ah Ok, that makes sense as Tim Reed coaches Steve Mckenna.
Yeah although the host has referenced it on other episodes since as well, and then Iāve seen Tim reed quote it on instagram recently too.
Joe. I know some people like a bit of edge, but you could end up with a lot of egg on your face here.
If youāre right, then use the hype and beat them. Imagine what that would do for your brand and marketing power.
As always, your minuscule brain gets in the way.
If you get past the hyperbolic headline he makes some pretty good points TBH.
And he is one of the top 5 maybe even top 3 Ironman runners so I think he has some standing to comment
I donāt disagree at all, but from a placement viewpoint itās entirely immature.
He knows the wider triathlon consciousness is focused on these guys. If he thinks he can win, then do it and heāll create an amazing aura. If nothing else, itāll bring him more sponsorship and marketing interest.
To the very casual viewer, though, it just looks like a less well known athlete moaning.
Exactly that.
Its not hype, the 2 of them have multiple WCās and Olympic gold between them, on top of other strong results.
Think you can beat them, and doing so. Great crack on. But donāt be getting all jealous because theyāre in the limelight as a result of their success. Itās childish
Itās a shame heās been so badly advised/not advised along the way as he seems to be closest to a ānormalā triathlete going on to reach much greater heights
He likes a bit of frank discussion, maybe you guys should send your views into his podcast? I think they have a voicemail capability. Or maybe on his Instagram.
The irony of Joe commenting on someones swimming
Why? Itāll come out in the wash.
If he loses, then Iām sure he wonāt care about my thoughts and there will be enough people pointing out his flaws.
And, if he wins, then heās better than I thought. That said, still doesnāt detract from my point that he could have played this situation a lot better.
Well I like him but he is a bit silly at times as you say, I donāt know how heād react - probably stick to his guns - but the engagement might be productive or entertaining at least?
I was meaning to tell him about some daft breathing apparatus for his ābullshit busterā section but couldnāt find the entry point.
Havenāt all his best result come after heās been quiet leading in?
Some very valid points in the article but Iād just be getting my head down and concentrating on getting out of the swim asap.
Agree some valid points and most of what is said heās right to be thinking. Doesnāt necessarily need to be said publicly, but journalists need a story too.
āItās not about riding loads of watts and towing people round. Itās knowing when to put the power downā
Biggest contradiction after slating Gustav for only doing 250W, without knowing difference between power meters, cda etc.
Joe Skipper or Harry Young?
Not sure what youāre saying.
The way Skipper comes across puts me off him a bit, but at least heās genuine. Whilst he might lack some polishing of his PR skills, his results are near the top of the sport, and heās just saying what he will genuinely believe about how he can beat them. I might not have seen anything to like him, but I respect/admire his results.
Thatās very different to an age grouper claiming to be a full time professional racing against the best in the world just because tri is an open sport.
As in most annoying
For all heās had flack, the fact we have 4x threads just about Skipper and a lot of traffic on the general pro thread says a lot.
Anyway, today I listened to his podcast on how we train. Recorded after wales, released just before Kona, so I wasnāt going to bother assuming it would just be out of date Kona prep/promotion.
But itās really good, as heās open. Main takeaway was his explanation when he was considering not going to Kona, that he thinks the pros are taken for a ride by ironman and sponsors by having to spend significant amounts of their own money to promote the brands without fair reward. Leads calls for athlete boycotts of WC or PTO to put on a long course event the week before/after Kona to challenge Ironman.
Also talks about his Kona hopes/expectations, but is outright enough to say that heād be disappointed with anything below a podium, and absolute minimum has to be that he was at least in contention for the win during the race.
Good honest appraisal of his Kona race in their latest pod. Topics include moto drafting, Cam Wurf having a mouth on him and the perils of putting ice down your shorts
Not heard the pod cast but Iām a fan. I like his honesty and Iāve got a lot of time for him.
Will he ever win WC? Not sure. His swim needs to put him in the front park I believe.
I was thinking about the PTO, kind of middle distance races and was thinking that they could even it up a bit more if they went ālongā buy taking the 100km race and making a 200km race. Splitting it something like 4km swim, 165km bike and 31km run. I appreciate that this has been discussed over and over again but thy have the opportunity to do what they want.
