That’s going to be a very boring 330km ride.

Some serious talent lined up there $$$

I wonder if he will actually get some proper coaching at last, could really elevate him if he is coached well, and is prepared to forgo his “wing it” training

Is this SM coaching?

I actually watched some of his later you tube stuff yesterday on the turbo and its definitely a bit more polished, I wonder if he’s getting some help there! He is very much more LIONel than LCB still though. Clear that he hasn’t been through an NGB where you typically get some media / SM training but sometimes that is quite refeshing as he says what he thinks, which isnt always ideal but is also better than stock answers to stock questions and My new bike is the fastest ever made, or I always refuel with maxxxxxxx protein. His video on nutrition was quite funny, he literally lives like a posher version of a student

Agree with all of this. I like him. He’s a genuine world class athlete who behaves like a club athlete which for me is great.
I realise how important sponsorship can be to pros in a minority sport like Triathlon, but you do get sick of them being corporate brands rather than just people.
Whether his approach will see him get to world No1 or not is another thing.

“An Ironman is a recovery day”

:exploding_head:

“If you race too much, you de-train”

“Some of my biggest training days are 7-8hrs. And I’m not tapered for them. So when racing, you can think of those as recovery blocks”

Erm…thoughts???

You sure it was Skipper and not Lionel…

Deffo Skipper.

I was more interested in when he was talking about AB and the sub 7hr…

I agree racing is de-training when you factor in taper & the recovery you need after but then it’s a fundamental requirement for a pro to race.

Yeah - I get that.
But it’s probably not “recovery” either :exploding_head:

Just how hard are some of their sessions???

Talker of bollocks talks bollocks.

And that folks is why an elite athlete should really have a coach/mentor to help maximise potential

I’m just listening to How They Train podcast with TIm Reed and Ben Hoffman.

There’s a polarised difference. Such likeable, intelligent and thoughtful guys. :+1: I’m not hating on Skipper there BTW (even if i find him very irritating), but just pointing out the difference in approach.

Though the host is obsessed with training correlation with sex and boners :man_shrugging:

As training goes up, intercourse and boners go down?

Pretty much, yup

That comes from the episode with Steve Mckenna who stated it as a sign he was overtraining a couple years back. Host has loved the quote since and made it into a tshirt this week for Aus floods Charity.
Its a brilliant episode though if you go back and relisten, really likeable guy.
And he has a young daughter now.
