The gentlemanly course of action would have been to buy a second pint to hide the right foot too.

My favourite comment

Two races is too much, should keep it to one, can’t be greedy with peoples time, look what happened to Captain Cook

There is a lot of Nimbyism. Its quite surprising just how run down Kona is, once you get away from the town. I am in Keauhou, about 7.5km south of Kona. There are a number of resorts that clearly didn’t survive covid, around 50% of the shops in the mall are boarded up.

I think running a 2 day Kona in 2022 is OK, however, Its a huge mistake to run Kona as a 2 day event in the future. So far, however, I think that stories of the infrastructure failing are not coming true. The airport is coping well with the number of bikes, when I went to collect my bike from airport yesterday, I would have been happy to give someone a lift, however, there were no queues for Taxis (people been saying multi hour queues would happen). As far as I can see the restaurants are not overwhelmed.

“…aid stations will be every 1.6 miles instead of every 1 mile on the run course; and there will be aid stations every 10 miles on the bike course instead of every 7 miles.”

That seems like a lot more aid stations than I’m used to anyway?

If you think Kona is bad, wait until you see Hawi!

They’ve not heard that Alistair isn’t coming then!

Maybe she has a massive head do and wears a swim cap that looked like a marker buoy

Utterly pathetic comment, the ocean is massive, on my swim yesterday, my sighting was so bad that I was 500m off the course, needless to say I didn’t encounter any other swimmers.
