I saw that. Will be interesting to see what they find out when they dig a bit further.
In the old days (~10 years ago) there used to be a team of people checking everyone’s tyres whilst they were swimming and any flat tyres would be sorted without the swimmer even knowing.
I watched some old Kona footage yesterday. It’s nuts to think how bike times have come down; and it’s mainly the bike splits that account for finishing times dropping below 8h. Jurgen Zack “smashed” his own bike split record in '93 with a 4:27! He was riding a softride albeit with a shocking position. It wasn’t until Stadler came along that it got dropped (4:18) and that stood for about 10 years iirc.
In 2005 (i’m pretty sure) my mate went to Kona., qualified at his 2nd IM
he tells a story of being at Lava Java the day after the race and Stadler is in there celebrating. Macca comes in with a face like a dropped pie and says:
‘I will race you anywhere, anytime, any place’ and Stadler turns and says. ‘Yesterday’
My mate is not prone to BS, so I truly hope that’s true.
Ah, you are probably right, I thought 2006 was too much glue (mainly because I thought that was before he won). You know the history much better than I.
‘Too much Glue’ was the same year that Crowie won?
