Kona Qualifying Diary

Yes 70.2% first shot, 53% with both… looks like they will hot 70% this month

Biden “expected” to announce easing of entry restrictions to US, but all rumors

Well done well done!

Also hoping for the travel restrictions to go so I can get to Boston in October as well, it’s getting close!

I’ve applied to defer my Kona slot to 2022.

I do not want the will it/won;t it uncertainty. I’m certain the race will happen but travel will be an issue - if it does ease it is likely to be a last minute thing after weeks of speculation/rumour. Our cases are very high, and the US is rising again as the Delta variant takes hold over there - ‘hospitalisations/deaths’ will I think remain low but just high cases means that international travel will be severely curtailed if you’re from or going to an area with high cases.

I’m lucky in that I had the choice with IM accepting deferrals from those of us from the 2020 start list when they are not for the class of 2021. IT is likely to be once only for me unless I get lucky in M55 so I do want it to be the full experience and a stress free (as possible) lead in.

I may end up kicking myself in October as I watch the coverage knowing I could have been there, but it feels the right call now.

You will obviously know better than me but I was sure that 2021 slots couldn’t be deferred?

Brilliant, just brilliant.

Only if you qualified after April 2021

Yup, it was very clear in their T’s and C’s, no deferrals if qualified after April 21. I guess they have to draw a line somewhere.

Well done Matt.

Well done both! Now comes the waiting game!

Good call

Paid for Kona, and booked flights, which seem very cheap, I have taken insurance in case of travel restrictions. I recon flights will become much more expensive if travel to the US is relaxed

No accommodation yet

What kind of insurance did you get, through the airline?

Dont click links you aren’t expecting - contact the source via their public website or phone number, don’t use anything in the email itself, if you want to verify it as genuine.

I reckon it’s likely genuine mind. I wouldn’t be surprised to see roll downs go to anyone willing this year.
