You got it done, that’s all that counts some days.
Well that ain’t bad for a worst bud. Especially after your troubles build. Well done for keeping going!!
@Tupperware - jeeeez. That’s top quality stuff! Awesome.
Well done both, especially for keeping going Mike, been in that situation a few times in IM’s, but you’ll be pleased you continued in a few days.
I was very very close to jacking it with 10 miles to go.
The run course is demoralising in places
Try doing the windswept bike leg in Hamburg, you’ll experience a whole new level of misery
I’ve even got witnesses in @Jorgan and Matt
No it’s not.
You finished.
Jeez sounds unpleasant but you get an extra hard man bonus for getting through it.. Could be the water imo, if the nutrition is tried and tested.
Well done @Tupperware and @mw22
Great stuff guys
Thanks all…
Swim was good…much happier when the water is a bit warmer. I think it was short though.
Bike went well, no mechanicals, but probably burnt a few too many matches chasing sub 5.
Run was a bit of a nightmare to be honest, the steps they add after the rugby club triggered immediate cramp in my inner quad and was struggling to get any fuel in, so had to make do with coke for most of it. Lost 5th as someone sprinted past me on the final downhill to the finish…but legs were cramping so no chance of giving chase…even if I realised he was just about to finish.
Well done for getting to the end @mw22 . Easy to quit in those situations especially on a multi lapper.
How did they get the weather forecast so wrong, it was beautiful all day…now sat in the car on a 4.5 hour drive home nursing some sunburn
I guess the more long races you do, the greater the chances of a bad day! Your bad day is 35 mins faster than my meltdown; I thought a 10:58 was a terrible day until I did Frankfurt
Find something ‘fun’ to focus on for the rest of the season
Right, bit of thinking time of the drive home.
And I think what was a minor inconvenience yesterday could be the cause of of my stomach giving up early doors.
The bite valve on my speedfil had split or something (8 weeks old , the previous one lasted 8 years) so it wasn’t air tight. Meant every time I wanted to drink I had to pull the fluid from the flask, which is on the tube. Probably 80cm of tube if not more.
I got out of breath doing this … But didn’t register it might be causing me issues. That air in the tube had to go somewhere, guessing my stomach.
As well as feeling sick on the run I was desperately trying to burp. Coke really helping. But assuming I was full of air.
Could still be the swim…but this is culprit no.1 now.
Full big speed fill?
F2?
Or a smaller bta version ?
My training buddy had this in 2019, gas in tummy… he was grey when I ran past him … nasty place to be
Yeah the big 1.2litres on the downtube.
I was so conscious of getting the fluid and beta fuel in, it didn’t even register what damage that air that might do.
Not sure I could’ve done anything different tho unless I spotted it in transition and could’ve tried to tape it.
I’d already filled the tube with fluid before the race started 🤦. Didn’t check it was still there tho lol.
I have one of these, brand new unused.
It might be a call for IMUK, so the air gets stuck in the bite valve?
We’re the split is?
It’s ok normally though?!
Yeah I’ve used it since 2013. Been faultless.
I replaced the valve last month as the original valve was leaking with bad road surfaces shaking it around.
This valve had worked fine. Whether I just bit to hard on one of those occasions when you hit a pot hole whilst drinking or just a faulty one, can’t say.
Get you now…
Any idea on the aero penalty?!
Bad?!
Be going on a argon e116.
You did well to finish it that state, he had really painful wind… ish, bad in any circumstances, during a IM marathon… shocking.
Thanks for the info
Yeah apparently the CDA is about as bad as you can get. It’s on another thread somewhere.
But for me it’s normally ideal on long stuff as I can drink whenever I want , rather than waiting for suitable opportunities to take a hand off the bars.
