I want a sub 11 (which would be a PB)
It’s doable, but I do need to find a bit on race day.
Yeah I’ve still got my new tyres and tubes to deploy which I hope will save me at least half an hour on the bike

Says he who ran 35km at ~4:00/km and rode 161km under 5 hours
Sub 9:30 for you
He can have my sandbagger moniker
40 mins at the least…!
@mw22 what you got planned for the final weekend? Think I will get a couple of hours on the bike with all the new bits fitted and a shorter run (~20k), then I can focus on weather forecasts, water temp (currently 14 according to the link above, but reported warmer on “The Lakesman Journey”) and trying not to get a cold or covid .
What day are you heading to Keswick? There were a few people arranging a quick swim in Derwent on the Friday evening which was quite nice last time. Although I might struggle to get there this year due to all the restaurants being fully booked and having to eat at odd times.
Sat 12k run and a lake swim
Sun 40 mile on bike. Try and be just up on race pace (which I’m still finding incredibly frustrating. I’ve just not adapted to TT bike, power is frustratingly low - esp considering how pleased I was from a winter on the turbo)
Yeah I think the temp in the lake was forecast to get up to 16 - which would be near ideal.
I’m going up Friday - I won’t dare risk a swim that close - my body is just falling apart
Not thought about eating and stuff yet - hoping they’ll be a dirty pizza parlour for Sat night tho
edit: Mamma Mia will do Mama Mia Pizzeria Grill
Oh yeah, I better try and fit a lake swim over the weekend as well!
Restaurant booking has been a real pain, hopefully spoons will have a free table!
Via A50 to Stoke then the M6?
I’ll come and give you some good luck at Knutsford Services
any tracker action do we know? can’t remember if that’s been asked/answered
Yeah - I’m going up to track them down and make sure they’re doing Zwift-esque power IRL
I don’t recall where the tracker was last time, will probably be linked from the resultbase page on the day - Results Base - The Lakesman 2021
Bib No. 287 for me
No I’m turning my tracker off
Honestly never fault so low in confidence. The inability to produce power on the bike is top of that sh1t list.
Physio needs to work a miracle for my shoulder to last the distance. Swim pace way off - need aquaman to come draft me round.
The long run stuff was going ok, but that pain on top of my foot is getting worse no matter what I do.
Gonna chuck some more rest days in the plan
I feel you man. But hang tough. What’s done is done now, and not much can change that beyond making stuff worse. I know you want a PB, and keep that front and centre of your mind. You’ll be amazed at what may come about on race day. Keep ticking over, look after the body and stay positive. That’s all you can really do at this point.
Then go out and abso-frickin-lutely smash the sh!t out of it.
Oh man - c’mon.
Positive Mental Attitude and all of that jazz.
#YouGotThisBro
Tailwind and tourists will get you round.
Honestly though, I bet you feel tip top on race week
This’ll just be residual fatigue creeping through
Sorry you are feeling like that, but sounds like typical taper madness to me, everything hurts, haven’t done enough etc. etc. You need some of Poet’s confidence!
Focus on any niggles, rest, and I’m sure you will surprise yourself on the day with a bit of race day adrenalin.
I’ve got two weeks left to feel like Mike
Might be peaking too early.
I reckon he’s sandbagging us and is going to smash it out of the park.
Your 20km run, when’s that planned in for?
How many days before the race?
Yeah I was assuming some of the normal taper stuff…
So with the bike - went back and checked what I was doing on my previous rides and I was smashing the speed. Roadie rides were faster than current TT stuff.
Having clocked 5:18 (which felt EASY) and 5:27 … rolling in at 5:50 is gonna destroy me.
I could cope with losing 5 or 10 minutes on the swim… IF I felt my bike was there.
Spent 7 months managing this hip issue, just about sort that then this foot pain comes on. Every stride hurts.
Its just making the whole thing “not fun”.
And I use BETA rather than tailwind
And supporters will be dispersed
Doomed lol
I felt like that about IMUK 3? weeks ago, I was destroyed, digging a deeper hole with each 20 hour week, couldn’t run… at all, and developed a really bad cough… not ideal in the midst of a global pandemic based on the upper respiratory system.
Things are a touch better today, see training thread, if you get in and can’t swim… at all, it wasn’t to be, some of my indoor efforts don’t transfer to the bike/ run but I’ll still tri my best.
Race day nerves are magnified in the face of not an ideal taper, huge cliche but, just do your best, you might surprise yourself… if you don’t … so what.
More importantly enjoy it!
Unlike the amazing ability of some in here to just keep going. Do fear I’ll just bin it.
I’ll get round the swim, its just how long I get to swim with 2 arms; before 1 stops producing any power. But if the bikes abysmal - can’t see me wanting to lace up for the run.
Almost binned the run last time I did one, but had a stack of friends and family on course.
