Derwent is a fairly shallow lake, you can see the bottom easily at some points so a warm week or two will bring it up. That said, 3.8k even if it’s 17c isn’t going to be very pleasant
Ouch!!!
Chatting to a guy at swim this morning, he’s doing TriathlonX in 10 days
Ah I thought it was deep.
17 be perfect… above that I’ll get claustrophobic in my suit
That was the Keswick end I swam in, which is where you start? I suppose it depends what route it takes but I didn’t think Keswick was like Windermere or Wast Water etc
Reckon they’ve included the pontoon there, chap
I’d be more worried about the piranhas and shopping trolleys than the cold tbh.
Luckily the sharks tend to be towards the other end
And it will still be warmer than Ullswater
Certainly felt uphill at the end for me! I think it was 14°C for 2019 which was the coldest it had been for the event (only 2 or 3 before 2019 that I think).
Was that the full? And they didnt shorten it?
yes, the full and it wasn’t shortend (unlike the bike and run before Poet chips in )
I’d already self censored myself
Probably not a great feeling for someone on the internet to belittle your achievements when they weren’t there and for circumstances outside of your control.
I say this as my iron distance time is faster than Frodo’s “so called” “world record”
(I am channeling multiple threads and platforms here;
Facebook IMJ group: still an Ironman if you do a shortened/cancelled course
Covid Thread: “so called” Indian variant
100 IMs x 100 days: “world record” )
How’s the training @Tupperware ?
Big 3 days for me now…
Century tomorrow all being well
3k+ in the lake on Sunday
32k run Monday.
Then can start dialling it back. Just need to get to Tuesday without being crippled
That sounds like my weekend, too!
Swim big concern… shoulder really niggly.
Bike is with club mate, so can’t quit that.
Run should be ok , only issue have at the minute is some discomfort on top of foot and around ankle.
I’m not swimming - as I rarely swim on a weekend.
Bike is solo, like an Ironman bike, to visit Morrison’s at Buxton.
Run, got my Maurten, Will strap on the Alphas and cruise it at 4:30/km
Silly question, but have you checked that your laces aren’t too tight?
I’ve had serious discomfort and brusing on the top of my foot in the past, and it took me ages to realise i just tied my laces too tight.
No not a silly question at all!
I have slightly different length feet. Add to that Achilles issues and I’m keen for a good fit.
Soooo, always used the heel lock doing laces where I can.
Been desperately trying to find a shoe to race in and settled with saucony endorphin speed. Biggest issue tho is no padded tongue, which I’m very used to in all my other overly padded shoes. And I think I’ve historically overtightened to reduce any further heel slip and such.
Swapped to greepers laces for race (as no way I was getting that shoe on quick with normal laces) and can’t do the heel lock do probably compounded the problem.
Got some elastic laces, but not been a fan in past for longer distances
Yeah, same for me… although trying to juggle family gatherings and birthday party over the weekend too. Can definitely tell my wife has had enough of ironman training now too!
3k in lake just done at 13.6°C, which felt ok
32-35k run early tomorrow, before BBQ and beer lunch/afternoon
Long ride (solo) Sun or Mon depending on hangover , hopefully a little run afterwards too
Won’t miss the long bike next weekend!
Sound like you’re smashing it.
Got a target time??
Ticked off my weekend activities as planned . Taking a well earned day off…well, entertaining the kids so will be exhausting
No real targets for me, just to enjoy the weekend as much as possible after effectively 2 years since my last tri. Will be slower than last time out, that’s my only prediction
Have you got a target in mind?
Saying that, I’ve got a new aero storage box (thanks to @Poet ) to fit which maybe worth 50W?! So who knows?!
