Lakesman 2021

FWIW out of 7? groups/ singles that I know went out today, only one person managed there planned distance, and he was 60 k hard.
Me and GG were supposed to do 4 hours, but just…. didn’t.

Conditions
Fatigue
Hangovers

No idea but not a coincidence.

Hope FP and Tunster are fairing better run wise!

You had a look recently - did you watch Countryfile tonight?

No and no … I fear this isn’t good news

I only know, as I’ve got Friday off for a long ride :sob:
And it’s predicting LOTS of rain :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

To be fair, Sunday in Keswick looks okay.
Light breeze, no rain for the bike, a little cooling shower on the run :+1:t3:

I’d take those conditions over today :hot_face::hot_face:

I caught the countryfile forecast…:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:. Should be fun pitching a tent on Friday :cloud_with_lightning_and_rain:

Told myself I wasn’t going to constantly check the apps :upside_down_face::cry:

Weds - Fri thunder and lightning working it’s way up from the south east.

Dampens put further north, but a massive drop in temps for next weekend :sob:

So, the weather keeps getting worse for Sunday every-time I look…probably should stop looking

Taper going well, went over on my ankle in a pot hole during a run, various bodily aches, feeling lethargic…usual stuff!!:grin:

Last lake swim ticked off, probably get one more bike and run done in between work\packing. @mw22 are you ready to rumble?

NOPE!!!
Physio last night - who now thinks my shoulder issue is actually a tight bicep. He then proceeded to destroy my arms which hurt all night. Todays swim session now deferred to tomorrow.
Foot pain now believed to be tendon issue and not bruised from overtight shoes - so thats gonna be a bag of laughs running on.

And yes - the southerly tailwind seems to be disappearing which is most upsetting. Dont mind a bit of rain, tho Id rather a dry bike just for less chance of things deflating my tyres!

Apart from that its perfect

Think I’ll be off in the second to last wave; the 1:15 to 1:25. Try and go front end of that. Should at least have a nice stream of fast swimmers to pass on the bike.

Have you sorted a box for transition? I literally have a garage full of plastic boxes after some enthusiastic organisation and new racking earlier in the year…I finally found one(!) which fits the suggested dimensions (40x50x30cm) and it seems awfully small. I was just going to use a transition bag, but as it is likely to be raining would be nice to have some dry socks/shoes to start the run.

Also got my Covid tests the other day, so I’ll get one done tomorrow, fingers crossed :worried:

Oh no I hadnt seen the box size… theres too many emails, full of useless cr@p and adverts.
Was assuming that was in the final info coming out tomorrow.

Yes, if the rain is forecast I think Id rather have a box. Hopefully they arent measuring them as we go in. I’ll likely be taking an entire wardrobe of stuff, which I’ll be convinced I’ll need and carry it round the entire course without actually putting it on. Not that I’ve done that before obviously

From the athlete guide, I suspect it will be fairly relaxed.

My wetsuit pretty much fills that up!

What I’ve learnt from my employer over the last 18 months with COVID. Is the massive grey area with advice, guidance and legislation.

Advice very much comes under - do what you want. So I’m going with a box that’ll fit both pairs of my canoe feet shoes in - plus whatever else I need that might blow away or get sodden.

I’ll happily shove it under my bike tho so not to pi55 off my fellow competitors. Might even stop the disc wheel blowing around.

Edit: Sod the wetsuit after the swim. I’ll never be swimming again. Same goes for bike post ride

Edit 2: Someones NOT put the tapemeasure back in the box. Its the only point of having a toolbox to keep TOOLS in. ARRRGGHH

Not going to dodge that.

@Tupperware you gonna ride it out in a tri suit - or layer up at all if its BAD?

Haha, I was just looking at the same picture!!

I think the temp isn’t too bad (was cloder in 2019) so I think I’ll just suck it up. Anything I wear will just delay me getting wet…although I will take some waterproof gear up with me, so reserve the right to change my mind!

:+1:

Yeah the temp is the only thing keeping it TriSuit. Think my default will be lightweight waterproof gilet. Try and keep any chill off the core. Anything else is likely to get sodden through.

Change of socks for mara now scheduled lol

I have got a perfetto… wore it to Buxton  but my gilet is actually lighter, and i could prob stash it in bottle holder if I needed it off).
