Who knows what the rules will be in 2 months time though
very true but anyone wishing to go needs to organise transport soon (flights probably) and that could also pose problems under current restrictions.
and will need to arrange travel insurance… which could pose even bigger problems…
although you can theoretically travel without insurance and trust your EHIC card which is still valid until he year end
Had an email off Ironman today saying that my AWA status will be carried through next year as well.
This might be why I got the priority entry for Cork yesterday?
Yep, but realistically, who will take that risk?.. only people insured will be those with annual policies, taken out before the corona pandemic and yet to expire
as I said “theoretically” but the practical reasons may defeat matters as it’s too risky as you say.
Even then I think the companies will be looking at government guidance on travelling and if it’s still “essential travel only” will look to duck out of any claims.
Frankfurt now cancelled to 2021
Berlin and NYC marathons gone as of this morning. Was due to run NYC but never really expected it to go ahead
Can’t really see Chicago surviving either now.
Probably wrong thread but just had email from Tri Society saying they’re hoping to run the Nottingham relays in August (the least socially distanced event ever)
It’ll be ITU relay format (rather than their normal one), phased starts and virtual handovers on a big screen. Could work
Got an other email off Ironman today offering priority entry for (AWA benefit)
IM Thun
IM Cork (again)
IM Venice 70.3
Obviously some free slots in races but not going to be many with Frankfurt binned as well.
Same. The thing is, I think a lot of frequent racers will all be in the same boat with 2020 races having been pushed to 2021. So it’s potentially only people having intended to take a year off racing in 2020 that might be newly looking for 2021 events. I would imagine any brand-newbies will likely be wanting to hold fire for quite a while until the landscape becomes much more clear.
STI are still advertising Roth slots. If by some chance Vitoria does go ahead this year, freeing up my summer with just Wales at the end of the year, then that could be tempting. I rated my STI experience for the Etape last year, and often hear that Roth is a bit of a logistical challenge, so having some third party support might be worthwhile (and it obviously guarantees an entry into an otherwise hard to enter race)
Yes, I suppose it depends on how big the pool of athletes is. Venice is a new race and near a tourist destination in May so could prove popular.
Cork was struggling for entries this year so I can’t image it will be that popular again next.
I suppose it depends on which races disappear altogether, like Vitoria.
I can only see there being a few slots for Roth, although there was an email from Zwift a couple of days ago offering the chance to win a slot if you compete in a Cervelo race I think.
I’m probably going to be backing-off the Triathlon for a year or two to pursue other endeavours; seems like perfect timing.
Me too… bit of cycling for me, maybe some TT, but mainly I’m going to enjoy some windsurfing again for a while.
One of the events that IM are still trying to push me to after cancelling this year’s Copenhagen (and they’re not budging an inch) is Kazakhstan… which WHO have just announced as having the virus in ‘accelerated transmission’…
Who the fark thinks, I can’t do an Ironman in Denmark; but Kazakhstan is a convenient and close second.
Kona* hunters maybe?
*whichever month/year it qualifies them for
People who live somewhere between Denmark and Kazakhstan?
