Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

I hope so. Back in Jan/Feb when training for Newport, I was fairly confident of a 3.45 but I’m heavier and less motivated now. I genuinely wonder what can be done in 8 weeks?

Basic plan will be a long run, a speed session, a hill repeat each week and then whatever else volume i can fit in.

Best look into the next ag up Jeff, as that’s the next time London will be running! :joy: :joy:

Got an email off an event company that do races in Blackpool.

Struggling to get races on, they are meeting all the EA regulations but the local council want them to do track and trace for anyone spectating or even in the vicinity, WTF

This is despite the fact they are still doing the illuminations , so thousands just milling about is alright but a handful of people watching a race is no go.

It’s depressing, local councils very limit, but surely that’s just print off a load of QR codes and ask the spectators to scan - but I expect the council will want more.

I got that same email.

I’m part of the volunteers for an ultra we put on in November. We’re ready to host everyone. It’s small and friendly, so we think with a rolling start we’ll be ok. But we know the only thing that will stop us now are locals and parish councils. Apparently an anonymous member of the public has already written a letter complaining that we’re planning on doing it. I remain optimistic but it’s looking less likely by the day.

I’m volunteering for a ‘Starlit Trail’ 5km through Winchester this Friday. (I’m a marshall in the cemetery!) Raising money for Wessex Cancer.

Haven’t heard its been canned but wouldn’t surprise me if we get an 11th hour call.

Yes, it’s crazy, a few organisers have met all the requirements only for a nimby to put a stop to it.

I think they are using this as an excuse because they don’t want it at all.

Apparently Cork 70.3 sold out in a week, wonder if the full will go in a year or so like Weymouth.

Probably bump up hotel costs as well.

I was thinking about the 70.3 but didn’t even realise it was open

Apparently Ironman Cairns went ahead at the weekend but was restricted to Queensland residents. Barely 200 finishers and 75 Kona slots as it was a championship race.

Probably some smiling people there!

That must have been a Kona slot for anyone that wanted one :open_mouth:

The best one was IM Malaysia when WTC was threatening court action. Race went ahead and was humid and hot AF. If you finished, you got a spot. 37 finishers.

Brighton 21 postponed to September.

That’s the I’m Wales date iirc?

This is getting silly. Options are placed automatically to September. Roll to 22 or refund

Silly?
Did you roll over Staffs 70.3?

And check out the Ts&Cs?
From what I read, it seems as if the event is cancelled, or rolled forwards in 2021, you’re not eligible for a refund/deferred place, as you can do this only once…

…now, that would be silly.

at least Brighton are offering a refund if you deferred from 2020

I meant silly as in an event I entered in 2020 is now scheduled for 2022!!

I’m not moaning. It’s great that Brighton are offering a refund!! I think I’ll defer to April 22 though. Fingers crossed it’ll go ahead then.

Yep. Still on for Staffs and Wales. Not that IM gave any choice in the matter

My London marathon April 2022 is actually my April 2019 entry :flushed:

Right now, I have absolutely no idea what event entries I have for next year. I just got lost in the cancellations from this year.

I’ve genuinely lost count now. I’ve just kicked AoA into 2022.

Yeah I’ve got the two IM events and fleet half marathon that probably won’t go ahead.

I can see next year being quite similar to this year really. Pretty pleased with the two races I did manage this year. Both were not on my radar and I had had a great time at both!

Knowing someone who suffered the Cascais cancellation yesterday, I was surprised to hear Ironman were offering full refund as an option for this one. He wasn’t sure if he was going to take it. I said I’d have loved the choice!!

Hadn’t realised that, I suppose they are out of options for this year and there’s very few open IM’s left next year.

Wonder if it will return at all?

A lad I know was going to sign up for Cozumel today I think, love his optimism :+1:
