Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

Still very much beginners in TS1 so not an issue.

Hmm, still think this is ambitious.

Anyone had any news on the London Tri this year? Scheduled for Early August, but seems pretty unlikely at the moment, especially given its ran from the Excel centre.

The organisers don’t seem to be responding or issuing updates at all

Im “in” the weekend warrior and Im assuming its not on. havent chased as i jsut assume they will let us know at some point. Then again Castle Tri havent mentioned Bastion yet either and that’s first week July. …Im also in Ride London week after London Tri which i doubt is going ahead. I dont see why they dont just put people out of their misery as its clearly not going to happen now. This isnt magically going to disappear in a month and allow mass gatherings within another month or two

Thanks Hammerer, This is pretty much what I suspect, just getting a little edgy about it as my swim training is non existent currently.

It seems to me that they are clinging on to the tiny hope of going ahead, probably a financial decision.

IM Hamburg has been rearranged for September.

Same day as Wales. I cant see Wales going ahead either…my third attempt to toe that line!

Just seems like asking for more trouble, moving to September. People aren’t going to get much swimming done in that time are they; and a lot probably won’t want a race that’s at a completely different time of year; especially foreigners who have to travel and make all the flight/hotel rearrangements, with a chance they’ll still be let down.

I think a lot will pull out.

I should have mentioned this.

I mentioned to OSB the reasons why I’d been distracted and missed the deadline to choose my Bowood Half option (and couldn’t make Sept '21), and they were very kind to just give me a FULL refund!

SO THANK YOU OSB! Future loyalty secured :slightly_smiling_face:

I saw a couple of comments on the facebook post for this saying that Hamburg being moved to the same date as Wales meant it’s more likely Wales will go ahead. Yeah, cause the Covid-19 situations in Germany and UK/Wales are really similar aren’t they :man_facepalming:

Havent PCC banned B&B etc from opening up until October anyway or was that an IMJ “story” I read

People are clutching at straws!

I’m just assuming there won’t be any races in the UK this year. I have the 3 Peaks Fell race which was moved from April to end-Sept but I would be very surprised if it is not cancelled entirely

IM 70.3 Italy still just has the “update at least 50 days before” message online. Doesn’t leave much time to book stuff if it does go ahead though does it.

Whilst that’s great for you, it’s a little annoying they’re doing that and yet the general line was only £85 back. By trying to be respectful and not unnecessarily contact them (not saying you were being disrespectful by contacting them in your case, just for clarity), I end up losing out.

They surely know word of different treatment provided to some people would get out, so why create that issue for yourself?

Oh well. It’s just a bit annoying I’m going to have to do a HIM next year about 2 weeks after back to back marathons (if they even go ahead). Not to mention likely 2 ironmans later that same year. It’s not the biggest issue in the grand scheme of things, but with Boston only having the one year of eligibility, I kind of have to try and do it next year. And I’d never do a fully loaded Ironman year off the back of marathon training. I’m probably going to have to spend a load of money to simply trot around Boston just to do it, as I’ll have to primarily Ironman train given >£1k of race entries are just going to get transplanted on next year.

Yes, I know I don’t HAVE to do Boston. But it is something I have always wanted to run in since taking up endurance sport, and was one of the main reasons of doing Malaga!

Absolutely, I know Germany has been affected less but that run course had quite a lot of support all spreading germs, even if the bike course was totally deserted!

I’m kind of surprised the local authorities agreed to it.

I think there’s a chance a couple of smaller races might go ahead with various restrictions but with the 3 peaks isn’t the first hill an up & down so essentially everyone will cross? It was on the CX version but I’ve never done the run.

A couple of the local trail\ultra’s might have a chance if they are staggered, partly depends on the aid stations and first aid etc., it would need the support of the local mountain rescue as well really.

Boston is going to be awkward, technically there’s only been a few qualifying marathons so far, and I’ll be fairly surprised if there’s many before the usual entries open, so in theory there could be a lot less people eligible to apply. E.g. London 2020 is after the current period this time.

I don’t think this years date will go ahead, so it depends on whether they offer to roll everyone to next year and only accept a few extra people. One other suggestion is that they let people defer over several years, but it could still mean a smaller field in 2021 because of the limited qualifiers.

and the ITU WTS event is also on in Hamburg that weekend as are the Mixed Relay World Champs…

looks like Hamburg is going all in with a weekend of world class triathlon - christ knows how they’s going to manage the spectator issues!

I thought that event had been binned for some reason. That is going to be busy then.
