Don’t wear pants. Simple.
Christ I already moan getting out of bed. I’m becoming my Dad!
Most of the joints in my body seem to click for the first few minutes after getting up, generally settles down after that, although putting my socks on recently with the groin problem got the odd sharp intake of breath.
The catch 22 for me these days is that mentally, I find it hard to run later in the day but physically, my body needs time to ‘warm up’ now.
I’ve never really been one for early morning runs, particularly hard efforts. I did do some parkruns but had usually been up an hour by then.
IM NZ cancelled, 6 days before race day!
Oohh!
6 days. The bastards.
Didn’t Challenge hold a pro only race the other weekend there?
To be fair to IM, they’ve become a victim of a snap NZ lockdown over a new case being reported.
You beat me to it, I think Auckland is having a 7 day fairly hard lockdown, rest of the country is slightly less harsh. At least it would only affect athletes from the country as I’m guessing they’re not even letting the Aussies in?
I wonder if IM are getting a bit nervous about the Taupo 70.3 even though it’s December 22, even though it’s a long way off. I’m not sure their national approach will change much even with a vaccination program.
Apparently the person had been to the doctors for a test then decided to either go to the gym or work as I’ve seen KFC mentioned?
That is short notice but like you say Lockdown also surely nobody from outside NZ would have been racing?
I really hope nobody is sitting in isolation after taking a chance and flying over!
Almost impossible that they would’ve have managed to get on a flight, there are normally resident people who’ve left for emergency reasons like visiting dieing relatives who are waiting months to get back in.
Does the NZ government pick up everyone’s out of pocket expenses or is it just left to insurance?
Yeah, one of my old analysts is sat in isolation currently. Her bf moved back over a year ago and it’s taken her until now to finally be able to get a visa to emigrate. She told me of her plans way back last summer, but only left us at the start of Feb. No way would visas be granted for holidaymakers / Ironman racers.
Looks like they are working hard on an alternative date:
Event Update
*We hope you’re hanging in there and finding ways to stay positive despite the continued uncertainty we are all facing. *
We have another quick update we wanted to share with you to let you know the status of the event as of 5.00pm Monday 1 March.
Thanks to the unbelievable support we have received over the past 48 hours from Taupō District Council, Tuwharetoa, our suppliers, stakeholders, volunteers and the local Taupō community we are making great progress on a postponement date.
While a postponement date is looking promising; we are still not in a position where we can announce this today. There are two crucial pieces of the puzzle we still need to confirm, and unfortunately, these will not be resolved today.
We are hoping for a green light on these outstanding items tomorrow (Tuesday 2 March).
If we do receive the final approvals we are waiting for, all registered athletes will be sent an email with their options. We will also continue to update the wider IRONMAN community on Facebook as we have been doing.
Thank you once again for your continued patience and messages of support, we know the unknown is frustrating, but we hope to be able to share some good news with you soon.
If only they had this sort of communication a year ago. Their name might not be as muddy as it currently is!
Challenge Wanaka was a full on event – several age group races over three days, although Aucklanders were banned because of the higher covid level there. But like IMNZ this year, it was only for people already in the country. NZ has severe restrictions on entry. They’re not even letting Aussies in unless they have resident status or fill a short list of critical needs.
Perranporth now cancelled, I’m sure it will not be the last event to go this year
You have way more chance of drowning in the surf than dying of COVID
Done it 6 times (94-97 and '13, '17) the latter two I had long ago moved away from home and the sea. Both 13 and particularly 17 were rough years; I was f*d after the swim! Surf swimming is quite an acquired skill.
That’s the only advantage I have in a swim is it’s rough and big surf. It’s not that I’m faster, I just slow down less and of course, reading ocean is a skill.
Boston marathon have announced a virtual marathon with 75k places this year but are still hopeful of a reduced size IRL race, hoping to make an announcement in the coming weeks.
