Momentous event cancellation and lack of refund

This has been released by the Comrades organisers

Their initial cancellation policy did not go down well but I think this has appeased many. Still feel that organisers should learn to release things like this at the same time as a cancellation. I understand there other T&C’s and legal requirements but it’s always an emotional thing - especially for the really big events. There’s a lot to learn in 2020, let’s see if people actually implement changes in the future.

London Tri now cancelled, inevitable, but Booooo.

Might find something else to focus on, maybe one of the fan dance events.

Challenge have announced that if you enter Peguera-Mallorca you will get a 100% refund if it’s binned and 20% off next year.

There’s still travel costs to think about though, you won’t get anything back from them at a guess.

I dare say no-one is entering an MDOT event given their poor refund policy until about a week from the race. Weymouth is on Tier 2 I think.

Our club’s 70.3 got called today, with only about 200 entries I thought they might have found a way but it was probably too much hassle.

Anyway, entry will roll to next year or I can get nearly a full refund, £5 for admin. It’s a very no frills event so not a lot of overheads to cover.

My race calendar is already looking healthy next year!

if you aren’t aware, Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle on 5th July has now been cancelled. they’re still hopeful Castle Howard and the September Hever event can still go ahead, but obviously time and regulations will tell on them as well.

The start at Castle Howard will make that difficult.

Steelman cancelled. Refund offered, but I suspect most will just hang over to next year, as I have.

If you mean the Cleveland Steelman, I’m just rolling over to next year.

Yeah Cleveland. Was looking forward to it. my first 70.3.

As it happens, I injured my knee last week, so I’m out for a month. Got 14 Months run up to 2021. :+1:

Sounds like British Cycling have suspended events until 1st September. I know TT’s aren’t affiliated but will be surprised if they decide differently.

This would have been my last week of training before tapering for Outlaw Half Bowood.

Same for Staffs!

I bet the weather will be glorious

Probably even better summer than 2018 I expect! That could be great for UK businesses if they can open. Staycations etc.

I was a TO at 10 events last year - strangely didn’t get wet once except the very last 30 minutes of the World Grand Final in Lausanne which was my last of the season. During the relays it hooned it down.

we were going to camp/stay down in cornwall for a couple of days this summer. I think that is going to be very difficult now! More spaced out pitches, much more people heading down and prices rocketing i’m thinking!

Cornwall is always completely mobbed in Summer; no change there! That’s why the Scillies was so good last year, and worth the premium.

Yeah i know, but I think it’ll be even worse this year.

Need to find a little hidden gem, if it even exists. Though I like South Hams as well, so that could be a goer.

We’ve already got an Air BnB sorted near Aviemore for August :+1:
