Woof!
How far have they done???

That was 100km on the 3rd of Jan

They’ve now got a patch over that section and probably done 350km by now - I forget to change Strava when I wear a different pair - as I’ve done 500km since then

@funkster - This is my new pair of Next% after 102km. I’m currently 83kg.

I’m very happy for you.

The streets round here are shit, combined with my foot strike means I have to add a patch to all my shoes now

Out of interest, how do you add a patch?

(I assume glue  ), but where does the patch come from?

One of the skills I learnt whilst making Deadpool’s shin/boot armour, was how to do silicone molding and casting

So I cut a template out of paper, then cut that out of acrylic, made a mold, then cast a patch out of 85 shore rubber, glue, boom

Mine don’t seem to wear as fast as funksters, but I just smear shoe goo on soles that I like and certainly extends the life of soles, and it doesn’t require his specialist skills.

Thanks guys👍, I reckon JJ approach may be more suited to my level of silicone molding skills/equipment.

It’s nice but a bit close to Stars and Stripes for me

Ha. I now can’t see anything but that!

So, I finally have a birthday code after missing out last year.
What’s the latest view on Vaporfly NEXT% v Alphafly? More specifically for 70.3/IM distance racing, in terms of getting them on easily etc?

I’m leaning towards the Vapors, as I got on with them so well at Malaga, and the Baby Alphas that I have are a real chore to get on with the new vaporweave that I believe is the same as the proper ones? The Tempo NEXT% are reasonable, but I don’t “love” them. But then again, they’re not ZoomX everywhere

Now I’ve got the Next% in the correct size and done 100km in them, I like them.
But I’m with @Matthew_Spooner on this.
They don’t “feel” as quick.

So I’d use 4% for 5km/sprint triathlon.
And Next% for 10km / HM (Olys and 70.3)

If the Alpha’s didn’t give me a blister, I really liked them and would’ve used them for marathons and Ironman. As the minute taken to put them on would be saved during the run…or at least worth it the next day.

As a forefoot striker, the Next% have the least padding there, which I really feel.

Interested in this as I got my code too. Was looking at the baby alphas, but based on your comments maybe not as good as I was hoping? What about flyease version do you think that would help? The flyease ones do look a bit odd though.

Edit: Baby alpha = Tempo NEXT % right?

Yep.
They’re not bad, they’re just not “wow factor”. But then maybe it’s unfair of me to expect it. In reality, they’re just the toned down version of the alphafly in the same was the zoomfly 3 was to NEXT%, and zoomfly flyknit was to 4%. I suppose the presence of airpods just made me think they’d feel more “special”. They’re still my go to weekly tempo shoe. A bit of a step up, and decent at speed, but that’s it. A very old pair of 4% still feel massively faster.

With 60 day returns, I may just buy a pair of both original NEXT% and Alphafly with the discount, and see how they go.

I just have a love affair with the Vaporfly 4%. I did a trail run in them tonight, bit of tarmac, bit of gravel, bit of single track with roots and streams and mud. Absolutely brilliant, 550m climbing, 18km, and I ran an average of 5:00/km. A whole bunch of trophies… 44% Zone 1 51% Zone 2

Did my 5km IRL PB in Next%, so they aren’t slow either.

Alphas for me for longer stuff
Next% for shorter

I couldn’t get my birthday code on another account to work with the Next% :man_shrugging:t4:
