I returned my NEXT% 2 after a single 7km run as they were too small. I did wonder what would happen to them.
In Swindon there is an outlet with a Nike store, did wonder if they might end up there…

Currently, they’re either donated to young athletes, or shredded to make basketball courts
In that case we should all be buying and returning, to help the junior athletes! How many pairs can be returned before ending up on the naughty list?
Four
I’ve just seen a comment somewhere saying Kings X outlet has Peg 36’s for about £50. Not sure what sizes though.
Yeah - can you see all the pink ones below the Next2%?
They’re all Pegs £78.95 with a further 30% off
ETA: Next2% were a return in a size 8.
ZF3 only sizes 7 and 8.
I’m a size 8 & Cheshire Oaks is less than 8 miles away, but the thought of going there on a sunny Saturday afternoon 🙅
Jesus. Brand new shoes, just released, at an Outlet store?!
My size too. Bit more than 8 miles tho!
You should be cutting that hedge and shaving those legs instead
We’d already walked around town, been to the markets and sat and had lunch in a pub beer garden.
I wanted some running kit, so had a quick trip to Choaks.
It were dead!
any tried the vaporfly for anything over a marathon? I’ve got a 40 mile ultra coming up in 3 weeks. Did a 22 mile recce today of the southern loop and conditions are pretty dry and good. Its probably 75% light trails and 25% road. Theres nothing particular terrible in there yet though there is a 10 mile loop I will recce in the next few weeks to check nothing dreadful underfoot. Wonder if the NEXT% would be a decent option in:
a. how much they can save my legs both during the later stages and post-run
b. If they will be very effective on the varied light trails. Mostly firm underfoot but not all even like a paved surface:)
I used a pair of Next% on fire road and mixed surfaced track in a race last year. It chewed up the sole but the performance was worth it when the others wore trail shoes and I was clearly catching the others due to fresher legs with the shoes.
They got my size back in Alpha’s with a birthday code
Just FYI when I returned by birthday discount pair of NEXT% 2 I messaged them via the chat to ask about how I could order a replacement pair with a discount. They were unable to sort a replacement, but told me to order at full price and once they received the return they could issue a 25% refund. They were a bit slow processing the return (tracked postage said they received it back on 14th April), but when I chased up today via the online chat today they said they received it back and processed there and then, they then processed a 25% discount on the new order.
So a bit of a faff, but you can get replacements and keep the discount.
Did a bit of testing last night with the new NEXT%2. I think the TLDR outcome is no real noticeable difference to the original NEXT%. So I think it will come down to comfort of the upper, and maybe how easy the two different shoes are to get on with elastic laces.
I did 8x800 with 2mins rest. Reps 1-4 in NEXT%. Reps 5-8 in NEXT%2. Rep 5 seemed a bit compromised as I did the shoe change in the same 2min rest period, and I think the lack of being able to walk around and flush the legs out was a hindrance, as instead I was crouched over etc. I also forgot to stick my stryd on for the first rep.
2:35 - NEXT% - 0w (forgot to put stryd on)
2:43 - NEXT% - 356w
2:40 - NEXT% - 358w
2:41 - NEXT% - 358w
2:45 - NEXT%2 - 352w
2:42 - NEXT%2 - 359w
2:41 - NEXT%2 - 359w
2:40 - NEXT%2 - 359w
Those numbers would indicate the NEXT% is actually slightly better, but I feel they’re so close that some fatigue and form must come into play in some manner. And ultimately we’re talking of a watt or two. Form power is basically consistent across all reps. LSS strangely went up through the intervals, which is not what you would expect. But as I say, ultimately, it showed very little variability.
What was noticeable was that first rep. I’ve not used “race shoes” since Malaga in December 2019. I have used an old pair of 4% for sessions, but they have hundreds of km on them, and whilst they feel better, they no longer have that wow factor. I jogged to the track and warmed up in some old zoom fly 2’s. But as soon as I put the NEXT% on, it was such a game changer. I had forgotten how good they feel. A 2:35 is 3:14/km pace. That’s very fast for me.
Final observation was the impact a footpod has on pace. I used the new Garmin track mode for the first time, and that was really good for rep distance accuracy, and the afterwards-GPS track, but looking at the raw pace info, you see what a difference a foodpod does to provide less volatile information, compared to that first rep where I forgot to swap it on:
NICE!!!
I went with the Alpha’s in my actual size in the end…should be arriving any second now.
Those reps look good - was it a club session, or do you have an accessible track?
Hit up the nearest track to me for the first time. Paid online but was never checked either on entry or during the session, so could probably just walk on I’d rather do the “right” thing though.
Just solo. Which was hard. But was really nice to be back to something verging on vomit enducing again. I’ve not done track reps in ages (probably a couple of years)
All it’s telling me is you’re setting off too fast! (i’m just teasing)
They’re really nice consistent reps. I guess for the experiment you could’ve taken a 5 min recovery between the 2 x sets of 4. That would’ve allowed you a bit more changeover time and recovery to make them a tad more comparable. But like you say, the difference in the end is very marginal, and will likely come down to which is the fastest colour!
i don’t even know where to start!
