Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

Interesting. The latest in squishy foam and carbon plates is Craft. Didn’t even know Craft made shoes, though these are apparently aimed at ultras. Shoes for road ultras seem rather niche to me. They do look very Nike-esque.

Those zebra ones look good though!

“ultra-everything”

I guess that covers it

You’d need to get the full outfit though Jim.

Months of R&D and the same price as Nike who have put in years of R&D. That’s a tough sell to me.

They do look a lot like a Nike clone, The Zebra print also reminds of the wrap they put on when testing new car models to disguise them.

I like a matching outfit almost as much as @Poet but thats a step too far even for me!

Yes, but at least you’re not supporting a company who sponsors doping as overtly as Nike.

We talking trainers or projects in the NW now?

When their chief executive is getting into email discussions about how much testosterone you can take without failing a test, I think it’s hard to conclude they’re anything but a doping company.

The shoes are a different kind of level playing field change of course, and one we can’t really complain to Nike as much about, however much they lobby to influence the rules, it’s still on the sporting bodies to actually set some real rules.

I have to admit the tread on the Craft look really appealing for the type of racing I’m looking at doing…

So, I finally cracked and bought a pair NEXT (2) to complete the set of 4%/NEXT/Alpha.

The arrived in NZ in a week, which is a lot faster than expected and now gives me the following (admittedly first world) conundrum.

Sunday I am running a flat fast half marathon. Which do I use.
4% - these have about 100k on them.
Alpha - about 90k I think.
NEXT - 0k.

So all barely used. I was planning the alpha’s, but now am pondering the NEXT. (FWIW I seem to have very robust feet, so am happy to wear without really testing them)

What’s the target this weekend? Is it a decent (flat) course or not?

EDIT: Was meant to quote above, but clearly this is beyond me

I did read that. I meant what’s the target time?

Sorry. Misunderstood.

Depends on wind. Definitely hoping for a pb. Got a few mates at similar level. Theoretically going out at 3.32 pace :grimacing:

I’ll be watching Strava with great interest on the weekend then! Good luck!

Nope! Most people spoke how slow it was. 100% humidity apparently. Thick air does not make for fast running. Tbh I only had my A- game with me as have one had 4 weeks of solid running.

Back on topic. I used the Alpha’s. They have a split on the heel so I am going to send them back. Not sure I will buy some more if the NEXT seem as quick.

Based on the behaviour of @Poet Nike now has a new business line…
