Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

That’s what @Matthew_Spooner did at Hamburg in T2

Takes me about that time to get my arms out of my trisuit, now I have one of the tight aero ones.

I know it’s pretty disgusting, but I’ve talked about it loads before in race reviews. I just pee on the move, including on the run. The big question is a proper toilet stop. I’ve never had to do that, but the new trisuit would be a serious issue if that was necessary.

This. I have never had a chafing problem with a trisuit when running. I get it all the time in “normal” running gear. I have to be very precise with vaseline to stop all kinds of chafing (crotch, between the thighs, under arms, nipples, etc. No real motivation to not wear a trisuit on that basis at all

The new upper, if like the Tempo NEXT% which I believe it is, is so stiff. It takes me an age to get those Tempo NEXT% on. And it’s just not as comfy. I’d need to focus on getting the shoe on exactly right. Flyknit and vaporweave are really comfy (for me) … the NEXT%2 is sort of middle of the road. A bit stiffer than flyknit or vaporweave, but nothing like the atomknit.

For that reason I’ve always gone with a 2 piece for IM. Never not needed to poop at some point on the run

Blimey! Peeing on the go!! That is bold

HOW?!

There is absolutely no way my body would release the taps in the correct order to get anything out whilst running! I struggle in the sea in a wetsuit even, i have to stop swimming completely.

Must be a very personal thing.

I’m tempted to just use T2 to get out of the top half of the trisuit and put a compression top on instead for this reason. Kind of a halfway house to a full change. Absolutely no interest in changing to normal underwear and shorts however, for all the reasons stated above.

I would very much piss all over myself

That’s not a bad shout at all :+1:t2:

That’s exactly what you do?! No different to people who pee on the bike.
Very much going off topic here, except for the fact that this is one major advantage of using a NEXT% shoe. The original flyknit is quite absorbent!

Well yeah. I just had a vision of peeing all over places you didn’t want pee to go!

I tried the peeing on the bike once in Wales 17. Didn’t want to stop to get cold etc. Filled my right shoe up. It took about 8!months to get rid of the smell

Pee in the swim - Yes
Pee on the bike - Yes
Pee on the run - stop at loo, pull leg up, pull old chap out, pee, replace, pull down

Yeah, I never managed it on the bike. Did it in my 100TT practice, but just couldnt in the IM. Spent the last 2hrs desperate to go which got quite uncomfortable. Stood at a portaloo in T2 for a good 60s relieving the pressure! That’s the only time I’ve ever peed whilst stationary since my first middle distance however.

One of the advantages of calf sleeves is it stops a lot of it reaching your shoes

Well this has brightened up my Monday morning

Not that I’d do it again but I stood up on the pedals and freewheeled. Then just went for it. Apart from the 30 seconds of additional warmth I immediately regretted it

You need to mention that to the makers, none of them are using that feature in their advertising.

There’ll be a new design with a little bead sewn into the tops to catch and divert the urine.

Wasn’t there some sort of visor that someone posted on here a while back, that caught and funneled your headsweat away from your eyes? Or did i imagine that?

Find a downhill
Unclip leg, let it fall backwards towards rear wheel.
Pee flies away

Yeah I use one on bike. Not exactly technically amazing mind

Okay - I’ll try to tackle each one of these in turn:

I’ve never pissed myself on the bike, or run.
I always stop at the loo.

I’ve never had an issue taking a :poop: in a two piece, or one piece suit. I’ve had one at every IM I’ve done - I just stop. It’s a nice little three minutes to myself.

Changing in T2: I’ve never done it, but am toying with it. With Tri-shorts or Runderwear on all day, I wouldn’t need to get naked. So just peel off the one piece, throw some shorts and socks on and climb into my shirt and cap as I’m leaving the change tent.
You might take the piss, but I don’t envisage that taking more than Nicholas Cage did to nick a car :man_shrugging:t4::rofl:

Finally, back to the Alpha’s.
My new Volt Blue ones are quite different to the original model.
They don’t squeak straight out of the box, for a start.
Also, the upper is far less stiff (see photo below)

As for elastic laces, the lacing in the Alpha’s goes under the tongue and upper. Using flat laces, they sit nice and flush and out of the way.
I can imagine using round, quite hard, elastic laces would/might dig into the top of your foot, perhaps causing a blister?

They just take me a bit of time to get on, lace up and get comfy in.
The 4% I can throw straight on and forget about them, and that’s without elastic laces.
However, I reckon with a kit change, sticking on calf length sock, then putting these on properly, I’m still going be coming out of T2 in under three minutes, so I’ll still be gaining time on most people.

I think all of my full IM’s I’ve changed in T2. I find running in running clothes is way cooler and more comfortable.

Alpha Fly’s are much faster to put on than Next%
