TFFT. Loving all the feedback
I’m planning on a 30 minute jog with the dog in them on Wednesday night.
Which drop which?
(i.e. which shoe has what drop?)
Thks.
Vaporfly 4% 11 mm
Vaporfly NEXT% 8 mm
The NEXT% feels like the ZoomX cradles the foot a bit more where as the Vaporfly 4% feels like you are simply stating on the cushioning.
First run in mine this evening.
Unlike @leahnp, I didn’t do 4:34/km for a 5:00/km effort. I managed 4:55/km.
First thoughts?
Out of the box:
THEY LOOK SICK
The race day bag is cool and the box is nice, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Before putting them on, I noticed the little heel hugger thing behind the Achilles and the fact they are WIDE at the front.
Putting them on:
Took a while. Lock lacing was easy enough, but left little lace to tie on my wide feet. The tongue also had gaps at one side, where you could see my bare sock.
UK11 was the correct size for me and my long finger toe, but most people will need to size down by 0.5/1.
Walking around the house, I immediately noticed they weren’t as “bouncy” as the 4%.
Heading out:
Easy 5km with the dog to pick up cakes and beer.
First km was fine, mainly spent picking up
Then I noticed it…GAH!!!
The lateral laces are “plasticised” and rubbed on the tops of my feet.
Continued to feel that for the rest of this jog.
The sole also has the weird flat cut out near the big toe on the front inside.
This caused my foot to massively roll inwards to toe off. Not good.
I also noticed the drop, but more of a way that my foot felt it was being forced forwards and down? An odd feeling.
15% extra foam, but where?
All on the new wider footplate! I kept hitting my ankles and calves Due to the wider forefoot area.
They’ve also MASSIVELY shaved it from the front of the shoe, so much so, my big toe felt a few rocks during push off.
“Pop” “Bounce” “Zing”
I just didn’t feel it with these on this time out.
Whereas the 4% you can feel that POP.
Overall:
Underwhelmed. I’ll pay to run up and down a closed dual carriageway bypass on Sunday for 10km.
The 4% should net me a 36:30, based on current form and feel.
So I’ll be wanting quicker than that to justify this outlay, although, they may even go back for a box fresh pair of “race day” 4%
Nooooo…where is my next run improvement going to come from?!!
Thanks for the info!
You’re more underwhelmed by the NEXT than I am by the 4%!
Yes…going to do some Fartleks in them at lunch…
…got a few Strava segments I reckon are there for the taking.
I’m leaning on the side of returning them…
…that’ll pay the entry fee to Snowman and a new pair of off road shoes
… and joy in the knoiwledge that you haven’t given Nike even more money!
I’m still on the fence…but they’re not even the most expensive pair of Nikes I own
Wearing my ZFs for my long run home tonight. Bringing along my wife’s ultra bumbag with a 750ml bottle in it, which will doubtless be a nause, but essential with current weather. I remembered sunscreen this time too. I plan to stash the bottle and do 2 smaller loops so I can drink from the cache, then strike for home (around 17km).
Cnuts!!! I just paid £97 for mine.
Is that 30-32km?
I’m dubious about the 4% (for me) for longer stuff.
Mainly due to the narrow footplate and my toe rub.
I’d not want to try them, as they’d lose their magical properties.
Are the ZF Fly’s the same narrow footplate?
Just that colourway at that price.
You a Nike+ member and have the NRC App, right?
I’ve a 10% off voucher, too…
No, for the same size, the ZF has way more room in the toe.
Yes, plan is to cover 30k today. Did 28km straight-off 2 weeks ago, then 32km split last week.
You’re doing some monster distances.
How are the legs feeling?
Another century ride this Sunday, too?
Or a 4:1 Brick?
I am not seeing the Blue ones on the Nike website.
I go a pair of the black ones delivered yesterday so could always send them back.
@Poet - how are you getting that price?
I’ve got the app open
It’s ok
Found them
