Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

I have the family in tow (due to Easter holidays) and the wife expressed an interest in the 5k. Not sure what time it starts but we are staying in NY for a few days before hand and were planning to go to Boston on the Saturday, so might not be possible…unless we move on the Friday instead, depends how keen she is.

I was thinking of some parkrun tourism, but I’ve just looked and I don’t think I’m getting there until Saturday either but do have some leeway to get there on the Friday.

Making my way up from DC over 10 days but not finished my schedule yet, just booked the room for 3 days in Boston and it wasn’t cheap.

Might look into the 5K though.

I know the nike trail shoes have been discussed here somewhere.

Was it the Terra Kiger that everyone thought was naff. I know @Poet gave his usual black and white analysis, hating s particular pair. Can’t remember which.

Was it you @jeffb that tried a pair?

My Innov8s are battering my feet and legs and the uppers are shredded after only 600km.

I know the Nikes fit my feet. But I’m worried they’re not ‘serious’ enough as a trail shoe. Though we’re coming into spring, so I could probably get away with a lighter shoe, and then get a more aggressively lugged pair next autumn for the winter.

I’m running in Wildhorse & have another 2 pairs in the garage. I rate them, but have never walked a dog with them.

ETA. Just been for my shower & thought I’d better add a bit to that.

I’ve ran them over distances from my local Parkrun to 50km/2000mtr runs on the trails & trods of the Clwydians. Obviously they don’t have the lugs of a fell shoe so if you’re out in thick mud/snow or doing something technical you may need an out & out fell shoe.

I think @jeffb picked up a pair of Wildhorse but hasn’t reported back yet . What did you end up with @joex?

Yes, I got some wildhorse, only used them a handful of times, I quite like them but on NYD where the ground was soft but buggy in places they weren’t great as the mud just stuck to them, but I think a lot of trainers would struggle with those conditions.

I also really like the Pegasus T2’s, nice and comfortable, perfect if you are doing drier trails and possibly got decent road sections or paths etc., I’ve been over the Lakes in them and got by but if it’s wet & greasy they are difficult.

Wildhorse the rubber is crap.
Slides all over wet rock, even sandstone (fairly well worn, but still)

I have zero confidence in them off road.

Kerra Tigers I use for XC and they’re fine.
Just a bit “flat” not much padding.

Salomon are the best.

Yes.

I bought some, I like them for the suburban muddy trails, gravel in my area. Just ran trails in them again actually. Fine jogging on the pavement too but you wouldn’t want an hours road run in them.

They aren’t in the same league as my old Speedcross or something like x talons which are designed for much tougher terrain and not so good if you run pavement to get to your trails. These kind of trail shoes are better for XC racing, mountain trails really technical stuff which I sadly, rarely see. Basically they have deeper lugs. And other people have found the Terra Kiger slippery on bare wet rock, which there isn’t a great deal of in South London.

Quality of build is good, and at about half the price of a serious Salomon.

I’ve put 400k into some Kigers. Good on hard packed trails, waste of time in sloppy mud imo.

I know what you mean about inov8s. The 65k run I have next week is a mostly hard trail and grass/mud. I’ve not decided what shoes to go with yet. Leaning towards some MUDCLAWS. I’d like to try some of the VJ Sports shoes. Trying to avoid my wife seeing another pair arrive!

I’ve never used Salomon, they seem to be quite heavy (and I don’t like their appearance!)

Agree with the Kigers.

I like them but not great in the wet

I’m not a salamon fan. They’re narrow and the uppers are next to useless.

From a decent sample group of mates, the Scott’s are miles ahead in the durability stakes.

Innov8s don’t last, but they’re good race shoes for the real sloppy stuff. Couple of mates have the VJ and they’re getting on fine with them.

My problem is I don’t want a million more pairs. Whereas what I really need are nasty, harsh, aggressive racers, soft, plushy, comfy ultra shoes and then something comfy but light for the summer trails.

Some of the new inov8s have kevlar uppers. Which ones have you got?

Not those they’re stupid price! :joy:

I’ve got xtalon ultra I think. There’s nothing ultra about them. They’re harsh AF underfoot. They completely mince my calves and feet, but they’re light and grippy.

Keep eyeing up a pair of dragonfly’s as I have a birthday code but dont seem to be coming back in stock on Nike Store:( Only place in my size is Pro Running Direct but struggling to find a discount anywhere and hate paying full price. Dont suppose anyone knows of any discount codes on them?

EDIT: See they have 10% off valentines day offer but nike spikes seem to be excluded?

Yup. My fake birthday code is waiting to be used for some Streakfly.

Maybe my fake March birthday will be luckier.

The streakfly say *Excluded from promotion but not sure how long that lasts?

Damn them :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Reasonable amount of stuff available with 25% off with VDAY22 code. Not everything and not all colour ways.

I’ve recently gone down the rabbit hole of watching some YouTube running channels, including Ben Parkes, Ben_Is_Running, FOD Runner & EDD BUD.

The general consensus seems to be that most would still race a 5/10K in the Alphafly or Vaporfly, however Ben_Is_Running ran a 32:XX in both VF & Streakfly, and he’d pick the Streakfly for up to 10k.

Yeah - they’re dropping on Nike before that
