They’ve obviously come back in stock. Still no size 13 though🥲
GONE AGAIN.
FFS
Size 12 in stock.
…erm…I’ve two pairs of 4%, Next% and Alphas now.
It’s not my fault the sizing is totally different (for me and their intended use) for each shoe!!!
11s back just now…
Nope. Gone. Out of stock on everything.
Today is going to be a day of F5
HECK YEAH!!!
Snagged a pair.
10% Vodafone discount, too
I had to put diesel in the van last night
No new trainers for me
Just me, or does 400g for a pair of “lightweight” trainers seems a bit high?
They don’t feel lightweight when on.
Oh, they’re also about half a size larger than 4%, Next% and Alphas.
So I’m actually a UK11 in these, which is what I bought!
Phew
Test them (and my ankle) out tomorrow morning
How light do you want them to be? Even my spikes are 380 (size 13 so a bit bigger)
Quoted weights are for single shoes (and size 9). So I would say sub 200g is light.
Yeah that was always the mark of a very light shoe, being under 200g.
I dunno
I recall having some Saucony about a decade ago that weighed in at ~370g for the pair, so I’d assume shoes could be lighter now (with technology advances)
Maybe it’s just most shoes in general are lighter now, so the difference between these and a normal pair isn’t that noticeable when in hand.
I find the opposite that most shoes are heavy. I used to race in Saucony type A6 and then Hoke tracers and I think they were around the same weight as my vaporflys. In the years between those and Nike changing the game stuff seemed to get heavier and it was harder and harder to get really lightweight shoes expect the Adidas Tkumi Sen or whatever they were called?
I think one of the thing Nike has really got right with the Vaporfly is it’s a good 20% lighter than it’s competitors including the alpha. Apparently the new alpha at Tokyo on Kipchoge is targeting weight loss.
My experience is limited to the last 10 years admittedly
You’re way faster than I am, or was!, so probably know your onions a bit better.
I used to train in Brooks Adrenaline GTS, or ASICS something (only had one pair of those) and recall them being heavy.
Racing was done in some Saucony something, which were properly light, but tore my feet to shreds!
Just waiting for the frost to melt before going out for a 3km test jog in the Streakfly…
I’m not a Saucony fan really. The Ride ISO pair I had were ok but nothing great, a bit dead feeling.
I also have some Peregrines 10s and everyone loves them but I find them awful after 12-15km or so, horrible things.
Been back and forth on what to replace my two rotation daily roar trainers with, which at the moment are Peg 27 and Rincon 2. I like the Rincon 2 but they don’t last long. Had slight heel slip in the Pegs but generally ok.
Right now Peg 38s are £80 on the Nike site and I’m also looking at Clifton 8 that are £112 from Pete Bland. The Clifton has a slightly more stable platform and runs cooler than the Peg.
One thing I’ve noticed with the Pegs that would affect weight is they have more blown rubber on the sole than they need to have (and the Rincon 2 doesn’t have enough)
So…I started with an “easy” 4:48km.
Then eased up to 4:28km.
Finishing with a 4:00km
Rounded each km up to 5:00 with walking.
First thoughts?
They are cold!! It’s 2° out, which the upper really lets through.
That adds to the lightweight feel.
They don’t feel massively different to Next% running wise.
That same “flat” forefoot feeling for me.
They also pinch me when I toe off, just the upper digs in where the toes bend.
Can’t tell you about the ZoomX, as that’s all in the heel, which I barely use.
Pretty sure I’m quicker in my 4%.
Which are now knackered.
They’re still my favourite shoes for <=10km distance.
I was thinking about my Next% yesterday. I’ve used them for 1x 10km, 1 x marathon and 2x7km training runs (to get used to them). Apart from that, they just sit in the bag they came with because I’ve had no ‘A’ road races for the last 18mths.
I’m assuming it’s just impact that affects the foam and not age?
My 4% have 810km on them now and the foam and plate are still fine.
Okay, so they weigh in at 464g for a UK11.
64g is the weight of a pair of socks.
And I can wear 4% sockless for 5-10km easily.
Here’s a photo showing the crinkling of the foam after 810km
Here’s my Next% showing 296km:
Alpha’s showing 222km:
Basically, for the Next%, after 300km, they are absolutely fine. Pretty much the same as when I bought them
Thanks. Never realised there was such a difference in design between 4% and Next%.
The 4%, Next% and Alphas are all completely different shoes.
In design, fit and feel.
For me, there is deffo space for the 4% in the current Nike line up
I’m unsure why they stopped making them.
