Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

TLDR - I have spent way too much on Nikes

Yep, I’d agree. I love the 4% and NEXT%. Don’t really like the Alphas at all, which is why I’m using them for all my long training runs to take the pressure off the legs.

I’m hoping so. I still have a brand new pair of 4% in a box!

I have a brand new pair of NEXT% ready for Boston, and a brand new pair of Alphas I got on deep discount to continue using for long runs.

My original 4% are now at c1250km. Still very much useable. The short lifespan reputation they had on launch has turned out to be hugely incorrect. They’re certainly not the same as they were new, but they’re getting close to 2x the distance I’ve ever run in another pair of shoes.

My original NEXT% are still only at 170k, so they’re my race shoe now for anything other than an A running race (ie Boston). I’ll use them for my HM on Sunday.

Could you upload a photo of the soles for us (me!) please?
I think you’re a fair bit lighter than I am, but I’m curious what another 400km looks like…

…also. How on earth have you managed to keep a pair of 4% unused in a box??? I’m like a kid at Christmas with shoes and gear

Just been toying with the customisable Next%…
Waffle sole for triathlon traction
Flyknit upper for sliding on
Toggle laces for the win :+1:t3:

Big difference in our running form. You can see you’re a massive forefoot runner, whereas I’ve put more into the heel

Woah!!!
That’s a huge difference to mine!
Yeah - yours look like mine did at 500km ish.

I also pronate to the outside - no wonder my ankle is smashooned  :see_no_evil:

Vaporfly 4% have around 1100km
Vaporfly Next% have around 800km
Alphafly Next% have around 450km

Last pair of 4% lasted longer, these ones, the sole is totally trashed
The soles on the Vaporfly Next% are showing lots of wear, but were still responsive, the upper disintegrated
The Alfafly Next% the sole is in great condition, however, the upper is falling appart. However I am hopeful of repairing this

You are not running in any of those now, are you???

Got your monies worth there Matt

Those uppers are battered!!

I won’t put mine up as most of mine go through the sole in one specific spot in less than 200km

Thought of this thread on my run just now.

I thought i’d take my old ZoomFly 3s out for a run. These were my go to interval training/tempo shoe. They’re a few years old, with 500kms on them. Compared to the Air Zoom Tempo Next % (what a mouthful) they felt like a full on lightweight racing flat! No pop and bounce in them whatsoever!!

The AZTN’s are my total favourite shoe at the moment. They’re lovely to run in, they look after my legs and i feel like i’m zipping along in them. Not sure i’d choose them for out and out speed intervals though.

The Alphafly Next are still OK for running, no longer my race shoe, I have a new unused pair that I got half price at Christmas. So the old Alphaflys are a training shoe

N-1 for me.

All my adult life I’ve considered myself a size 10 for all shoes, until the Nike VF & AF where I found I had to go 10.5 this gives almost a full thumb width of space around most of the toes, and without that toenails (2nd & 3rd toes) on my right foot take a battering. I recently got some Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 in a size 10 and just about get away with it, as in they don’t destroy my feet (but do slightly pummel), but I think I would be more comfortable if I sized up. The Speed 2 are my regular track training shoe now.

It seems my feet have grown?!

Got the size 10 Streakfly as it was all I could get. They probably have 1/2 to 3/4 of a thumb of space, but it seems this declines after the big toe. Took them for a spin at the track last night (about 8km in total) and my toenails are destroyed. I definitely need a 10.5

My times on the reps were better than I expected, 1-2s a lap quicker than the last time I did them in the Sauconys.

Odd question….

…. Do Nike sell their super shoes at outlet shops?

I’ve never seen any on the couple of occasions I’ve popped into the Nike outlet down in Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.

I seem to remember Poet seeing some vapourfly Nexts quite a while ago.

Could be complete pot luck

Sometimes.
If they’ve had returns in person in store, or they’ve got lucky.

But generally, no.

Thanks both. Last question, is Nike sizing universal?

So a 11 in a normal Nike shoe convert to an 11 in their super shoes?

Not in my experience, I had to go half a size up for the Next%. I’m a 9.5 in most road shoes (including Peg37) but needed a 10 in Next%

NOPE!!!

I’ve got 11-11.5.

But different people find the sizing different in the models.

My Nike casual trainers are 10.5-11.
Blazers, Dunk SB, AF1 etc.

Yep.

9.5 in casual, Pegs, Zoomflys and Next% 2’s.
