Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

Yeah totally with you on that. I always used to have two brands on the go for that very reason. But lately the Nike deals have been really good and it (so far) totally eliminates any concerns over fitting my stupid hobbit feet. Every Nike pair I get, just fit me.

Here’s a question…

If sat unused, does a shoes foam determinate naturally over time?

Similar to @Poet, I have a few pairs sat unused. The infrequent times I do slip them on, the foam seems to have significantly deteriorated over time.

Thoughts?

I know with coveted sneakers (like the Paris Dunks) the white sole outer yellows.

As for the foam deteriorating with zero use?

How?
It’s plastic. Under zero load :woman_shrugging:t4:

I’m just asking here!
If they do, then show me how (preferably, using #ScienceFacts )

ALSO: @gingerbongo and @GRamsay - I’ve so many pairs of trainers as a lot of them were 25-40% off. So I stockpiled them. I now have enough and actually can’t justify anymore :face_with_peeking_eye:
A few of them were ÂŁ55.56 for ÂŁ140RRP trainers

I tried Nike running shoes in 2013 when I was doing parkrun in 24-27mins, and hated them. Super narrow and really “plastic” feeling (slippy sole, shiny polyester upper)
They’ve come on so well and produce great shoes now. Athlete feedback and all that jazz :white_check_mark:

In retrospect, I do wish I’d bought the custom Next2% with the waffle tread, FlyKnit upper and toggle laces :sob::sob::sob:

Suggests, these factors for the aging of foams:
“Over the course of time, mechanical dynamic load (fatigue), oxidation processes, temperature, exposure to UV light (photooxidation)”
Whilst you won’t be getting any dynamic loaing effect, the oxidation processes will surely still be happening?

Now the react foam on a nike, may not be the same as other rubber foams, but I still think there are certainly aging processes other than fatigue, it’s just quantifying how much.

Hmm … I asked for #ScienceFacts

This appears to be actual facts :woman_shrugging:t4::joy:

EDIT: the oxidisation is the “yellowing” I described earlier. But also similar to what you get on old Porsche/Capri foam spoilers. When they go brittle. But that’s 30+ years old rubber :woman_shrugging:t4:
Kept outside etc etc.

Not in a shoe box.

I asked the same question last month here, everyone said they don’t deteriorate.

Just to update, having done nothing I finally had a chat with Nike today about the popped air pod on my Tempo Next%. They confirmed they have a 2 year warranty, so after I ship them back for free, they’ll inspect and refund them.

Given I paid £90 in the sale I’m a bit gutted since, it’ll cost a lot more to replace. They said they only replace within 30 days.

Keep kicking off on the chat (or email) and they will give it. It might take a few goes though

Ohhh fark. I binned my latest pair that popped. However they were probably verging on 2 years old.

I have a pair of VF4% that have been sat in a dark corner unused since 27 July 2019 (IM Hamburg). Only 84km on them; I assume they are still there…

Think I’ve worn mine maybe once since the same race as well :joy:

Still covered in dust.

Not quite as comfortable to walk in :joy:

I had the same issue with them and got the same response. Was similarly dissappointed having paid ÂŁ100 for them and therefore not able to directly replace.

However they issued the refund pretty sharply, and I look at it as having had a good training shoe for 18months at no cost!

I’ve been intermittently using some Tempo NEXT% since Aug 21; £66 on EBay. Still going strong. A lot of my running is off-road around here tbh, so they don’t get used an awful lot.

these Pegs 66 quid at Nike store at present

Is that per shoe?

:joy:

Doesn’t quite work with 1 pair, you need to buy 2 pairs

“How many pairs of shoes did you buy?”
“1”
“How much did they cost?”
“£32.99 each”
“How much??? Right that’s your Christmas presents taken care of for the next 2 years etc”

versus:

“How many pairs of shoes did you buy?”
“2”
“How much did they cost?”
“£32.99 each”
“Well, that’s not too bad I suppose”

I’ve been running in these for about 3? Weeks now

Seen a definite jump up performance / efficiency wise, my last Nikes are in the bin, I’m not 100% sure we’re these came from?

Anyone know what they are called?
Is there a carbon plate in them ?
Any info greatly recieved, I think I got them in a deal off flea bay but there are no Names on them ?!?

Cheers
I did spend some time looking… they all look “ similar” but I obviously want to buy another pair of these.

Yeah they’re all very similar. The sole is the same as my pair of Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit, but they have different upper material
