15° - you’re joking
That’s what the popcorn emoji is about
We all know Joe spends more time reading about training in ‘Spoons than actually training
XC and trail races in the snow etc just vest and shorts but always have gloves. Shorts all year round but top half kitted out accordingly
How very dare you(!)
As it should be! How to spot a triathlete at the XC leagues - the only people that will wear base layers under a vest
Saw in the news Kiptum was wearing the next iteration of Alphafly’s when he broke the mara WR yesterday.
Incredible to think sub-2 in an actual race is now only just over 30s away :-o
Or two years of super shoe iterations
Are they actually getting quicker though?
I’ve not seen anything to suggest the Alphafly 2 was quicker than the originals, common consensus is they are slower if anything, you hear a lot of people stock piling the originals.
Similarly people seems to favour the original Vaporflys over version 2 & 3.
Perhaps the other brands are finally catching up with Nike, but Nike seem to have gone backwards in the last few years.
I think AF2 is a worse shoe than the AF1 for a racing shoe (its just a long run shoe now)
I never ran in the 4% but the VF2 is definetly a better shoe in terms of fit than the plasticy topped VF1. In terms of speed I couldnt pick it. The VF3’s are 10g lighter in a size UK13 (so not really) and they are all just as quick as each other imo. They’ve just got better at having a universal fit from what I can tell.
My main issue with both AF iterations is the weight
VF2 270 g
AF 300 g
AF2 330 g
The VF were getting near racing flat weight with cushioning. AF’s have continually bulked.
What @itom150 mentions about weight …
… perhaps it’s the cushioning leading to less fatigue, which allows you to remain faster for longer?
So whilst the shoe isn’t scientifically faster, in real world conditions, it most likely is.
I don’t know
As for Sheeple stockpiling originals.
People don’t like change.
They like “their” shoe and the fit it gives.
So they shit some bricks when CorporationX says they’re gonna stop making them.
I really used to like Woolly Mammoth meat, so when I heard they were stopping making Woolly Mammoths, I went out and hunted them all to stockpile the delicious meat. Only it all went bad and I ended up hating it.
4% felt bouncy and weird, and hurt my arches. You could feel the faster. VF2 appeal better to the mass market by not feeling any of those things.
You mean they felt fastAF and were built for people who knew what they liked and liked what they knew?
4%
Next%
Alphas
I’ve got the Next 2s, and i’m pretty sure they wrecked my foot at IMW.
Up until that i really liked them.
I’ve not tried alphas, but probably should give them a go if i go long again. I like the next tempo whatever they’re called (the ones with the nice foam, the air bubble thing but no carbon plate), so i think i would probs get on with them.
No plans to race until May now though, and that’s a multi-terrain run course anyway!
9.5 degrees this morning for our club 0700 zugerberg ride. Wore long sleeve jersey and bib shorts. Was a little chilly at first, but fine once climbing. Put on my rain jacket for the descent (it was 12 degrees by then)
They do contain a plate, except its composite and not carbon.
Exactly. All toned down for comfort instead of performance.
I haven’t trialled the 2s like I did the 4%, but they feel slower which is half the problem.
IMHO the 4% had 11mm drop, offered no stability despite being 33mm in stack the sole was like cheese and the build quality was questionable
The VF next % increased the stack to 40mm but reduced the drop to 8mm and stabilised the shoe with a larger/wider sole. I also think the zoomx foam was tinkered with as well
A couple of people have commented that they think the foam changed between VF1 and VF2, becoming slighter stiffer and more ‘plasticky’ I think we’re the comments.
Guilty as charged yer honour !!
The foam’s going to harden though surely? Removing most of the benefit?
