Nike Zoom Fly/Vaporfly 4 and NEXT% - The Thread

Is anyone going to buy some Alpha Flys…OR WHAT?!

I thought there was some talk about the new Pegs yesterday, different thread?

Anyway, I’ve been using the Peg36’s a few times recently and really like them, but as I think someone mentioned they don’t strike me as a high mileage training shoe and are getting towards a race shoe.

I prefer heavy training shoes so you can feel the difference when you put some flats or fly’s etc. on.

Fairly sure I’ve still got my birthday code so might push the boat out for some Peg37’s, as it doesn’t cover the Alpha’s.

yeah it was me complaining about the 37s moving away from being a classic ‘normal’ everyday, neutral trainer to just a feeder shoe for the fly’s.

I thought the move from 35 to 36 they made one jump, and now another from 36 to 37.

I didn’t like my 36s initially, but they have grown on me over time. Probably about 100kms to settle in, whereas all my previous Pegs have been good out the box.

Funny you say that - I’ve got 90 on my pink peg 36s. Really like them and will probably get another pair and rotate them with my Zoomflys

Yeah i’ll probably buy another pair, but know that they’re that bit stiffer than the old 35s. But then i guess by the time that comes around my ‘new normal’ (see what i did there) will be the 36 anyway!

At the moment, as the ground is so dry, i’ve been running the trails in my pegs. My Altra’s i’m having second thoughts about (zero drop) and my Dynafits are on their way out. I’d still use them if i needed to race though.

I’m going to use the Pegs on Saturday, which will be a 50km route that’s 95% trail.

This just prompted me to check on the mileage of all my shoes actually. The next ones due a replacement look to be my New Balance ones. They’re super soft, comfy training shoes. Rubbish at anything moderately fast, and they don’t last as long as the Pegs. But they’re really nice to have in the rotation, especially when doing easy runs on tarmac.

I’ll have to go see what the latest version is now!

I’ve been using my normal Brooks Adrenaline even on the trails as well with it being so dry.

I love my Altra’s for walking, but terrified about running in them!

I did my Brecon 100 in them, and think i may have bitten off more than i can chew. I didn’t worry about zero drop as i’d used them in the pas. but when i think about it, that was like 7 years ago, and i’m probably much more crippled and inflexible these days, so it would make sense that i may need a little more help. Especially as i’m the world’s worst for any sort of maintenance work on my body!

They can wait until the winter to be replaced, and i’ll just run no moer than an hour in them.

I do like the look of the Peg trails. they’d be perfect for this weather. But they just feel a little unnecesary right now.

In the app there’s a Pegasus trail 2 coming soon, so we can get Poet’s feedback first.

Nada purchases for me for the foreseeable :cold_sweat: :sob:

I have my new Pegasus 36 FlyEase but havent run in them yet :slightly_smiling_face:.

The side zip could be my ticket to an Olympic PB

I’ve just got a pair of those too…for around 53 quid they seemed worth a punt. Had a niggly Achilles since I’ve had them though so not been able to go too far (up to 13M), I was expecting them to be a bit softer, so concur with comments above regarding Peg36.

I quite like the zip/elastic lace combo, works well.

I’m glad the feedback on the peg 36s are in line with what I have experienced as well. I felt crippled trying to do a speed session in them as I was too lazy to get the 4%s out of the cupboard

I did a 5K effort in the Peg36’s on Saturday, it went better than I expect but not sure I’ve noticed any bedding in, but I’ve probably only done about 30k in them so far, and regularly swap between different trainers.

I still like my Adidas Ultraboost’s but they are getting on a bit now.

You get a black box and a “free” bag…I’m in :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Interesting video. Although it’s a shame he’s not run in the previous iterations. Much of what he describes is how I (and most others) felt about the original 4%. Hard to put his comments on the Alphafly in appropriate context without that prior knowledge.

For example, he criticises the stability. But I know that the 4% felt like he describes here, and sharp corners are not entirely straightforward. But the NEXT% was so much better on that front. To the point I’d not even mention it as a negative point of the shoe. So is the Alphafly the same as the NEXT% and he’s just used to a traditional shoe without ZoomX, or is the Alphafly a regression on stability from the NEXT%?

I took my Vaporfly Next% for their second test on Sunday.

A 1 mile hill climb (usually the Hairy Hill relay on Hob Hill).

I ran 9:18 in my racing shoes (Altra Escalante Paris) on Wednesday and 8:13 in the Nikes

Some of the gain was due to familiarity, and some due to the air quality…but otherwise, on tired legs, it’s a great gain…

I’ve bought some Peg 37’s & Peg Trail 2’s today. Had my 30% birthday code so saved a bit and will put the 37’s away for now.

My Brooks trail shoes are getting a bit tatty.

Will see what they are like.
