Judging by the complaints about the crowd at IM Wales this week I think they are longing for a Forestman or Big Woody type event, the power of the open air ![]()
Ooh where was that?
I found the crowd too rowdy this year.
Almost football lout levels of behaviour…
yer on faceache similar to you, moans about rowdiness and the drunkenness, people blocking the road on the big climbs as they were drunk and not respecting the space. The run course with people wandering about out of control, it was said to be terrible by that stage. The was one incident of a guy coming down the hill on his bike near transition, and losing it in the wet trying to take a drink. Some guy had his about 3 year old kid uncontrolled next to him slightly in the road and the bike and athlete slid near the girl, didn’t hit her. He started kicking the guy as he lay hurt on the floor and had to be moved away.
They are blaming out of towners who descend for an excuse to spend all day drinking, and how year on year its getting worse..
Yes, latterly I bought Dextrose powder from MP, and added a flavoured H5 tablet to the solution, plus a bit of sea salt. I remember the white residue it used to leave on everything!
Needless to say, I never encountered this on the Continent. They know how to drink responsibly.
When I looked into it I was quite surprised how much salt is in there, I would guess it’s much more than a High 5 tablet.
I know you mock Tailwind but for me it made a big difference to my racing & I did wonder if the salt level was a significant factor.
I looked it up: H5 tab is 250mg sodium, 3 scoops of Tailwind (75g) is 900mg sodium.
Yeah I generally added 2x tablets into a 750ml bottle.
And 56mg Magnesium, 70mg potassium, 9mg calcium

PH1500 clone
more sodium, just increase the Sodium Citrate to 3.80g per Litre (68.0g for 20L) the other salts remain the same.
They use magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate in the tabs so they fizz and dissolve, they don’t in the powder as far as I know/remember.
Per litre
I’m a 1.5x in 750ml man myself, or 2x in a 950ml bottle on hotter days
