Nutrition for Tinpot Poets

And you have “experts” like Noakes now pedalling his carbs are evil narrative risking the cycle starting all over again, picking out a picture of Haaland eating some offal and saying this is why he’s the worlds best striker

I’m sure whisk will confirm but I got told off someone who rowed to a good level that excess timber was bad!

Yeah I think the better boats are made from carbon fibre now

I can’t remember if it was Holly Avil that was casually told she looked ‘a bit chunky’ by a coach and that started her spiral into an earing disorder.

Having seen the Leeds elites when it was Non, Vicky, Beownlees, etc. on regular basis. I can say that some of the girls that looked a bit bigger built than the other elite women on the telly, were not big at all in comparison to non-athletes of a similar age.

I can confirm that standing next to Gwen Jorgenson back in the day was never comfortable. She made Vicky Holland look “too big”. I was managing the girls team when the details of Holly’s struggles were published in her blog, it made me so conscious of what I did and didn’t say in any discussion that was food related or not. I can confirm that my team were good eaters! We had many a post-race pizza or “McDo”

Mads Pederson also highlights how nutritionists have taken over because the amount they eat, and the complexity of it, is too much for individuals to manage these days.

still isn’t - still rake thin. But then very few of the elite women (or men) are much bigger. Cassie Beaugrand looks quite tall on the TV - IRL she’s about 5’8" - but still looks big against Gwen.

Strictly speaking it’s body fat percentage rather than weight, and there is a lower limit

I’ll admit to finding images of Eilish McColgan slightly uncomfortable, she looks unhealthy to me. She’s getting results but at what cost.

Eilish is forever having to put social media trolls back in their boxes when they feel it necessary to comment on her shape.

I think for women in particular they also get a fair bit of online trolling about their weight and appearance, from looking too big or too skinny.

Strictly speaking its overall weight, be that muscle, fat or a 10kg plate in a back pack.

Women have it much harder than men. As @jeffb says, too big, too bulky, too skinny etc. Women can have visable abs at a higher BF percentage than men which I think alot of men don’t understand. Let alone the if they are slightly muscular, they are ‘bulky’ Which is a soapbox I won’t jump on today

People and athletes are different shapes but society doesn’t always appreciate it. I’d call someone like Kat powerful rather than someone with a skinnier looking build but she’s still a bloody good athlete.

Need to accept different shapes and sizes!

I’ve got a friend who was a 34 minute 10k runner, maybe faster, and a middleweight boxer, absolutely beast and stood against a field of runners looked out of place.

Apparently Tailwind UK is ceasing next month, tariffs from the orange cretin have forced costs up and he’s decided to call it a day.

Need to rely on the power of the crowd now :joy:
